    Taipei 101: Branded stuff

by cheekychic Updated Apr 4, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Taipei 101 is the tallest building in the world, with a mass of shops on the lower floors, incorporating many top brands under the LVMH group, such as Louis Vuitton, Dior, Celine, etc. The fourth floor houses the Page One bookstore from Singapore, with the highest-roofed coffee house in Taipei and many fine restaurants. The food court on the lower ground floor serves rather good food.

    Seaside Produce - Cuttlefish

by akikonomu Written Nov 24, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Dried cuttlefish in an assortment of flavours (pepper, wasabi, chilli, salted, sweet) are good snacks you can buy when you visit seaside towns such as Yeliu. The texture is chewy and taste slightly pungent but it's a popular snack many Asians are accustomed to.

What to pay: Taiwanese are generally honest so buy some to snack on if you feel the price is acceptable.

    2x 7/11's on same street

You can't walk in Taipei for more than a minute without spotting a 7/11 or one of it's many rivals on the street. Taiwan has athe highest density for 7/11's in the world, sometimes they will even face each other across a street. Inside you can find hotdogs, but more prominently displayed are the local tea eggs and steamed buns.

Ximen district: The best place for the weekend

    by deeper_blue Written Sep 21, 2008

Ximen has a huge number of clothing stores, eating opportunities and some mini gaming arcades to enjoy and browse through. It's usually very crowded with student types, but after 9-10pm it is very quiet, if you want to drink here you should go to the red house.

Wufenpu: Wufenpu - when to go

by yukisanto Written Apr 2, 2008

This is a wholesaler area of 80% women's fashion clothing and 20% guys' clothes. Walk here from Houshanpi mrt station (10min), but don't come here on Mon as that's the day when wholesalers sell to storesowners only. Although prices here are on average cheaper than say Ximending, the fashion at Ximending is slightly different and better quality? I don't know, but that's my experience. I ended up buying alot more unique stuff from Ximending than Wufenpu. But it's really a place for young adults and teens to buy trendy cheap cfashion clothes. Prices range from NT 200 to NT800.

Eslite Bookstore: 24 hour bookshop in the heart of Taipei

by aukahkay Written Dec 17, 2007

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Eslite Bookstore, Dunhua branch

Eslite bookstore was established in 1989. The first shop was located in Taipei City, Da-an District, Dunhua South Road, with a focus and emphasis on art- and humanity-related books. Since then, the company has expanded and set up more shops, and now includes a wider selection of books. Eslite also expanded into retail, and opened up Eslite Mall. Eslite Bookstore was also the first to set up a 24-hour bookstore in Taiwan at its Dunhua store, which attracts a lot of those who enjoy night-life but want to spend their time in a bookstore.

What to buy: Books of course! Most of the books are Chinese books but there is also a good selection of English books. Only the second level of the Dunhua shop is open 24 hours. The other 3 levels are open during normal shopping hours.

Great service and plenty of nice aquariums. We've just got us a nice aquarium yesterday. It's a salt-water tank. Very nice one. They set everything up for us without charging us.

If you r not interested in buying any, it's fun to visit this little shop too. It's got a very unique architecture. Just look at the picture. Doesn't it make you feel like you r in the boat?!

They also have a nice bookstore there. Most people loves shopping for books there. Among the foreigners, they have a great opinion on it.
It's near another shopping centre, and within 5 mins walk, you can go see a movie if you want.
