This district has been a good shopping place since my mother 's generation. This first department store was estabilshed in the area.
Here, you can buy many things from T-shirt to CD player. Many high school students come here for shopping from Monday to Sunday. If you are not satisfied with the price, you can simply bargain and get a competitive price. Also, there are many nice restaurants in this area from Korean to Friday's.
Sometimes, if you are lucky enough, you can see some street performance.
What to buy: Japanese stuff and also some fashinable high schhol students' things.

What to buy: Geared towards the younger generation, you will find all the clothing and accessories that are hit in Japan and the US in Hsimenting's many little stores.
This is where the younger crowds hang out at night. You can also find lots of inexpensive restaurants here.
It's also a good place for people watching.

When in Taiwan the best place to shop for electronics or computer type stuff is the Guanghua market. Here you will find most anything and everything available in country and at the lowest prices anywhere in Taiwan.
Prices aren't set, so haggling is a must. Many, many shops here so easy to play one store off the other...
Located a bit north of Jungshiau Road near the interesection of Bateh and Shinsheng roads...

In the Department stores and most of the larger stores there are set prices with no bargaining however it is possible to bargain at markets and any of the street side stalls and smaller shops. Nothing ventured nothing gained

I came there just for window shopping, but the shop assistants were sooooo nice. When I asked them if I could take a picture there, they eagerly searched for a soft toy that suits my T-shirt just for me to take picture. :) I ended up buying a key chain and an umbrella there.
What to buy: ... but not for Japanese tourists who like to buy local souvenirs, 'cuz it's a Japanese shop. :)
