It features restaurants with live snakes -- though I never got to witness it, apparently when someone orders a snake for a meal, the local snake handlers will "charm" the snake prior to killing it. I did notice snake alley is full of odds-and-ends, tourist trinkets, foot massage parlors, sex shops, and a wide variety of other vendors--all a little too cliche for me. In the north end of the market you can find some decent restaurants that are not quite so touristy... I sat down at a restaurant run by a few locals. They were surprised to see a westerner at their food stall. They gave me a great meal of rice, beans and soup for next to nothing. Great experience. | | | | Thamsui- beautiful scenery with great foods. | Tip Rating: | | | | |
Although it's abit far away from the city.. but it is definitely a MUST visit place! Hope I didn't remember it wrongly :p, using the MRT to the Tamshui, it should be about an hour, plus another hour from the Tamshui station to the "Yu Ren Ma Tou" by bus.. But, believe me, all your tiredness will be washed away when you seen the beautiful scenery, especially during sun set! Once you came out from the MRT station, there is a place where you can find plenty of hawkers selling all sort of delicious food, souveniers, games, etc. Part of the restaurants/ stalls do actually situation alongside the river/ sea?? Hahaa.. sorry that I can’t remember it well too.. :p For me, I’ve tried a claypot crab noodles in one of these restaurant while enjoying the view..ahaha.. so wish I’m there now! After enjoying and shopping around nearby the station, you can then start journey to the “Yu Ren Ma Tou”. The bus station is just opposite the station, or alternatively you can take a cab there too. The picture in the intro page shows somewhere near the entrance of the “Yu Ren Ma Tou”.. and of course.. there are a lot more great sceneries to discover! Some tiny advices.. maybe you would consider to visit her only during weekdays or non-holidays, as going there during weekends can be really packed! Especially when you are trying to get a public transport, either by bus or cab. Leave a Comment

 | | | | Taipei's ferris wheel - Asia's 3rd largest! | Tip Rating: | | | | |
Taiwan's largest Ferris wheel. It was constructed on reclaimed land along the Keelung River. Located on the Miramar's 5th floor, the 100m by 70m, 48 by 6-persons compartment Ferris wheel has already been ridden by 50,000 people. Level 1 to 5 is all about shopping. Not too different from our malls. However, its uniqueness is the huge ferris wheel located on the top floor and there is a merry-go-around next to it. The wheel takes 17 minutes to revolve & offers stunning vistas of Taipei City. It costs NT$150 on weekdays & NT$200 on weekends & is open from 11am until midnight. It was built to the same specifications & designed by the same manufacturers as the whopping 106m by 75m Ferris wheel at the Hep 5 Shopping Mall in Osaka, Japan, the wheel has an 80 tilt factor & can reportedly withstand an earthquake measuring 8 on the Richter scale. The wheel is not, however, as is claimed by its proprietors, Asia's 2nd-largest Ferris wheel. It is, in fact, Asia's 3rd- largest, as the city of Changsha in China's Hunan Province boasts the largest, which measures 120m by 99m & has 60 compartments.
