The Living Mall

Located in Bade Road, Section 4 ( Pateh Road and Tungshing Street) it is I believe, one of the biggest shopping centres in Taipei City. I understand that it offers 1.66 million square feet of space with products and services offered by close to 1,000 enterprises. As one enters the shopping Centre, the globe engulfed us. One could imagine that the circular alien spaceship seen in the movie `Independance Day' has come ! (You can see it at David's photo websites.)

We don't know how many storeys there are here but on half-a-day's browsing, we reached only the fifth floor and we were hungry. Down to the basement, there is a foodcourt selling `fast' food, self-service. The seating area extends right to the centre where a big screen shows continuous display of snippets of current movies.

The crowd at Shih Lin Night Market

There are at least 8 night markets around the city of Taipei and some of them are really big like Shih Lin Night Market.

Don't forget to bargain!!

If you like to try something special in the winter, the snake soup and snake cuisine at Wan Hua night market is the choice.

Shopping in Taipei doesn't...

Shopping in Taipei doesn't have to be a budget-busting affair. By day, the Chinese Handicraft Mart (No.1 Hsuchou Rd.) has a wide variety of inexpensive mementos that appeal to tourists. Day and night, boutiques in Hsimenting offer bargains on clothes and shoes, while shops in the alleys around Dinghao offer more pricey fashions, jewelry, books, and sporting goods. Most stores are open until 9:30 pm or later.

For some upper class shopping, try the Zhongxiao east Road circle. They even have a SOGO department store.

Another popular shopping area is around City Hall. There are big shopping malls like Warner Village shown in this picture.
