In Chinese the word ZOO is "TONG WU YUEN". The Tong Wu Yuen is open 9am till exactly 5pm, after 4pm, no one will be able to entery the zoo.
Prior to our telling you about the Zoo, let us advice you to bring a heavy sandwich for your lunch or snack, while visiting and enjoying all those beautiful creatures are lots and lots of drinks in vending machines, be sure to bring enough coins as it will not give you change as it happened to us...yet there are some hot foods but we particularly did not care much as we saw it heated few times over...so, a sandwich will do the work...Let me tell you how easy it is to get to the zoo. Get on the brown line and stay it till the last stop which is the TAIPEI ZOO. You can also use the bus numbers 236, 237, 294. Once you have your entrance tickets (oh! adults entrance pays NT $60, which is barely U.S.$2.00...so cheap indeed! Once you enter it is about 160 M away from the entrance of the famous PANDA. There are two pandas out there waiting for you guys! Their names are: The boy is Tuan Tuan and the Girl is: Yuen Yuen. In chinese Panda is Maoh Siong, what a great creatures indeed! The que on visiting Panda is an endless que, so, get ready with those digital cameras as you have about ten minutes to wave at those Pandas. There are hundreds of Asian animals such as the formosan animals. These are those black bear, Chinese pangolin, there are also the children zoo, those they classify as the tropical rainforest animals, there are many animals from Australia, few animals from Africa but yes they do have a cute elephants from Africa, lots of beautiful birds, lions, and so many interesting creatures. The feeding time is around 5pm thereafter the animals are kept in the back which means to say you will not be seeing them till the next day. These is just a fantastic way of controlling the beautiful creatures, have them relax till the following day for the public. We understand that the ZOO connected to the terminus of the metro train. It is also advisable that if you wish to see everything in the zoo, there is these tour vehicles which charges very minimal, lets not forget the area of about 182 hectars that is quite big to see all of the zoo...Try not to miss visiting Koalas, the water animals such as the penguins...they are all super interesting and we find that the government worked so hard which everyone now is enjoying these very organized zoo, it is super clean and always pleasant to use the toilets, they are super clean indeed. We have visited other countries or cities and the zoo was not as clean as Taipei Zoo, Hurray for all the Taipei people that keeps these Zoo great place to visit...
to their individual habits. Tour vehicles enabling visitors to see the whole zoo in ease are available. Koalas from Australia in 2000 and King Penguins are the zoo’s latest favorites. Crowds are thick here on weekends and holidays

We visited Taipei Zoo mainly in order to see their giant pandas. The zoo is very easy to reach. Take the Muzha line of the Taipei MRT to the last stop - Taipei Zoo. Entrance to the zoo was very cheap at only 60 Taiwanese dollars.
We went on a weekday which I would recommend as I think the zoo would be very busy at weekends. We could visit the pandas freely, but we saw the barriers outside for the waiting line at weekends and they stretched a long way.
The zoo is large and well set out. You can travel to the top end by shuttle and work your way down. There is an excellent penguin area. There is an area for desert animals - all in hiding due to torrential rain when we were there - the poor things. There is an African animals area, a nocturnal animals area, a Taiwanese animals area, an insect area and many more.
The zoo possibly has the loudest gibbons in the world. Boy can they make a racket. There is a McDonalds and a Family Mart inside the zoo.
We visited the pandas 3 times during our day at the zoo. On the first visit they were sound asleep. All we could see were panda bums. On our second visit they had come to life and were running around crazily leaping in their pools, rolling around on the ground playing with branching, racing round their enclosures both indoor and out. On our third visit they had obviously tired themselves out and we were back to panda bums. For me this was the first time i have ever seen pandas and I loved it. However, if I'd gone on a weekend and queued for hours to look at 2 large black and white bottoms I may not have been too pleased.

Taipei zoo has a wealth of different species, the elephants, penguins and monkeys were my favourites. You can take the shuttle bus to get around easily, there is also the maokong gondola nearby for stunning views.

My visit to the Taipei Zoo was a short one, due to heavy rain. The Taipei Zoo is the largest in Taiwan, and contains a large variety of animals, including penguins; personally, zoos are not my thing, so I might not sound too enthusiastic about this place. I did not get to see the penguins; I had two hours at the zoo, and over one of them was spent inside the Nocturnal Animals exhibit while it poured outside. The owls and rodents were fairly interesting, but the animals themselves looked quite bored. Later I also saw the Tropical Rain Forest part, which included tigers, elephants, and orangutans.

Zoo is always full of surprises. For me it's a healthy place for family and couples.
Taipei Zoo has big land and live many animals from various areas. Personally I love Asian tropical zone and nightlife animal house the most.
The most popular animals in Taipei Zoo are Penguin and koala. (childred's stars) There are many to see. If you also take the interest, please depart from home early in the morning and visit till 05:00 PM.

Although I would not consider this an absolute must see activity, it is a nice zoo and is a good way to spend an afternoon. If you need a break from the concrete jungle of Taipei, the zoo is a great escape.
It is convenient as it is connected to the MRT, and zoo itself is fairly modern and makes you forget the fact that you are in a big city.

In the southeast of the city at the end of the MRT line is the Taipei zoo. A fairly good zoo who's star attraction is a pair of Pandas.
