If you are travelling in Taipei for at least 1 week, don't forgot to buy an "Easy Card".
An "Easy Card" cost NT500, it is NT100 Deposit and NT400 value with the card. For adding value it is minimum 100 or its multiple.
With the "Easy Card", it is not only save the hassle to line up for ticket, most important, it save 20% of the fare. The card can use for Metro, buses and some parking in Taipei city.
You can get it in any Metro station and also adding value.

As you arrived in CKS airport, there are 2 types of public transport going to Taipei (half - 1 hour from CKS airport) by Taxi or Bus.
The cheapest way to arrive in Taipei city is taking a bus. There are several buses going downtown in different prices, direction and quality, but generally they are not bad. The cheapers bus company is Airbus, NT100 to the Taipei station area and major hotels.
Once arrived in the arrival hall, turn to the left.... there are some ticket counters there for various companies. Check the location and decide the choice. The buses are very frequent as you never need to wait more than 15 minutes.

The MRT in Taipei is very convenience for the travellers as they reach a lot of tourist spots within Taipei City.
It is a little bit more expensive than the buses but if you can't read Chinese, MRT is the best way to travel around.
Another good reason to take MRT is simply because they are disabled friendly. It is a good news for those who are really love to travel around.

Finally, budget airline is coming to Taiwan. Thanx to Jetstar Asia, now you can come to Taiwan from Singapore with very cheap fare. If you don't like service-free airlines, that's not a problem, Singapore Airlines, China Airlines now offer rather cheap ticket from Garden City to Fomorsa. Noramlly, if you book flight in advanced, it cost only about US$230, tax included. So, if you come to South East, why not come to Taipei to feel our passion and friendly citizens.
ps If you ever come to Taipei, wirte to me!!%f&

Beware a rush hours! It was easy and trains were not crowded during a day. I did not remember that rush hour starts a little bit later in Asia than in Europe. I have never been so full trains than I was just after 8:30PM.

Taipei's metro is expanding all the time and now you reach almost every sight and place with it. There is a 1-day ticket (valid one day, unlimited trips). If you stay a little bit longer, you may find Easy card more practical. The price is 500 Taiwan$ and you can reload it as much as you need.

It's very convenience, comfortable and safe to travel by MRT around Taipei. The MRT system is very well established and maitained. Also, announcement is made in several languages such as English, Japanese, Mandrine, etc.
I'd highly recommended to those who have very limited time in Taipei (1~2 days) to travel with MRT.
The MRT will takes you to the major highlights in Taipei. Eg: Shilin Night Market, Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, The 101 Taipei Building, Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf , & etc.
It's rather cheap to travel too. Minimum of 1 stop only cost NT20/-. (http://home.trtc.com.tw/EINFO/eticketprice.asp)
Make sure you vsit the official web site of Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation for detailed info.

Unlike the MRT system, Taipei's bus system is too confusing for foreigners. There are way too many routes and each route is not straightforward. The route map is clearly presented at each bus station but they are written in Chinese. If you can't read Chinese, good luck!
The good thing is all the buses accept payment by Yoyo card, and the fee is quite cheap, especially you are transfering from MRT.
