In the higher mountain areas of Central Taiwan, it is likely you will experience acute mountain sickness (AMS), considering that roads reach past 3,200 meters (10,500 feet) and many visitors will be coming up from near sea level. Symptoms of AMS iinclude headaches; generally, AMS is not too serious, but if your body feels very bad there are possibilities of HAPE or HACE and you should descend to a lower altitude as soon as possible.
