LiTao is on the South cross-island highway. Go to Taitung from Tainan or Kaohsiung, you could choose this way, risky but worth seeing. In the small aboriginal village Litao, people set guest houses for visitors who like to go hiking. It's really a good choice for you.
The villagers count on agriculture, for instance, cabbage and strawberry. donot expect people will be nice to tourists coz I didn't feel anything about it. I guess they still have to work hard for filling belly. However, the owner of guest house is polite. No worry about it.
It's still suitble for drivers to come, as the traffic is a big problem for backpackers with only legs. the bus is offered and you could take it from Tiatung city. the bus goes twice a day.
We visited Lu Yeh in Aug 2005 again and saw the people fly the hang gliders. They looked like the small dot in the sky in the shown picture. Click the picture to see an enlarged view might help you to see them.
Lu Yeh High Land is now also a famous place for the hang glider. Many people fly the hang glider at the weekends here because of its steep cliff at 368 meters high and the wide flat ground under the feet.
There is a baseball museam at the village to remember those old players from this village. The museum is besides the Hung Yeh Elemantary school where the baseball team were from. Inside the museam, you can see some old pictures and the stuffs of their glory days.
Hung Yeh village is a beautiful and peaceful village in the mountains. This is a aboriginal tribe. They are famous for the hot spring and the baseball teams. Even without these, we thought it was wonderful for us just to walk in this village to enjoy the moment of the peaceful life.
Hung Yeh Village is famous as the birth place of the morden baseball in Taiwan. In 1968, the baseball team from this village defected the vistor from Japan and this arose the enthusiasm of the baseball in Taiwan. After then, you can often see the Taiwan baseball teams play at the championships of the Little League in William Porter.
Lu Yeh high land is famous for the tea planted here. You can see many fields where the tea is planted. You can also have a stop at the tea house to have a cup of Chinese tea.
At the end of Lu Yeh high land, you can enjoy the grand view of the moutain at the far side and the flat fields underneath.
On the way to the Hung Yeh village, we saw some beautiful scenes. Besides the red bridge, it is Hung Yeh hot spring park. You can have a hot spring bath there.
