by keeweechic Adjoining the Chiang Kai Shek Memorial hall on opposite sides of the square was the National Theatre and the National Concert Hall built in the Chinese style. There is a 25 ton bronze statue of the Generalissimo. The whole ground was divided into East, West, North and South in the arrangements of the buildings, with the statue of Chiang Kai-Shek facing China. The area has once been a jail. by keeweechic This is where the Laohsi Rivr joins the Liwu. At each end of this marble bridge, two marble lions, male and female, which stand guard. Nearby is a small marble pavillion. The bridge of Motherly Affection (or Devotion) is also known as the Marble Bridge due to the huge marble boulders which have been tossed down the gully possibly by some ancient tremor. by keeweechic Two pagodas side by side on the banks of the Tsuoying Lotus Pond. You enter through the dragon's mouth and exit via the lion. This is supposed to symbolise the changing of bad luck to good luck. Inside are paintings of China's 24 most obedient sons showing scenes of heaven and hell . This is to try and inspire people to do good deeds during their life on earth. For those who don't, there are threatening examples of retribution for wrong doing. by keeweechic Up on a hill on the side of Ta Sha Wan Shan, you will find Chungcheng Park where you can get panoramic views of the harbour. This is a three level park which was originally called Kang Park. On the first level you will find a historic cannon fort and on the second is Chu Pu Tan Temple, Chung Lieh Temple and a Buddhist library. The park has a 22 metre statue of the Goddess of Mercy in which you can climb up inside. Leave a Comment Address: Keelung, Ta Sha Wan ShanDirections: East of the City

by keeweechic Chuanfanshr, otherwise known as ‘Sail Rock’ is just off the southern coast. The rock is actually a piece of coral reef rock which broke off the tableland. It was given the name because from a distance the rock looks like an open sail. Some however have said that from a certain angle, the rock looks like the former President Richard Nixon. by SLLiew Have visited the National Palace Museum twice and always left impressed and awestruck. My eyes feasted on the wonderful paintings, calligraphies, jade+stone+ivory+wo0d intricate carvings, porcelain, woodwork and delicate, preserved and precious works of arts from the Shang Dynasty to Qing Dynasty. This is probably the best collection of Chinese art in the world. Apparently, some of the best treasures of Chinese history were carted and shipped to Taiwan when the Koumintang administration left mainland China after the Chinese Civil War The museum is easily reached by MRT or bus from downtown Taipei. There are several floors to explore and you can learn Chinese History 101 going through the exhibits of paitings, sculpture, porcelain, perfume bottles, coins, calligraphy. At least a half day to do any justice. You can rent an audio machine or join one of the free tours conducted in English, Chinese or Taiwanese. The Museum has gone through an extensive renovation and so worth a revisit if your last visit awhile ago. Museum is open daily: 9am-5pm (General admission: NTD160)

YuShan National Park by silvia_chang YuShan is the highest (3952m) mountain in Northeast Asia. From the saddld of Ta Ta Jia to the top of Yushan, it's about 8.5 Km. I am not a professional climber but I am happy that I did it!! When I climbed the top and camp up with sunrise, the scene was one of indescribable beauty. You are able to refer to my album in YuShan, I think you will love in it. :-) Leave a Comment Address: Nantou County, the middle of TaiwanPhone: 886-049-2773121Directions: No. 300, Sec. 1, Jungshan Rd., Shueili Shiang, Nantou County, TaiwanWebsite: www.ysnp.gov.tw
