Taroko Gorge

by kenmerk

I'd have to say that Taroko Gorge is the one true "Must See" place in all of Taiwan. An extremely narrow marble canyon with near vertical walls, it is the kind of place that pictures just cant quite capture... Highlights in the gorge include the more narrow sections (Tunnel of Nine Turns and Yentzukou) a natural hot water spring (Wenshan), and a clear water stream great for a cold summertime soak. (Shakatang) Though the place can get overrun with tourists, there are many a trail through the gorge that you can quickly find yourself all alone on. (Seek these out...) For more pictures, please see my Taroko Gorge page... (Tailuko)

Kenting

by kenmerk

Taiwan's premiere beach resort. Nice beaches, active nightlife, as well as great hiking trails, and near-by hot springs...The diving here also is surprising good. You can see a nice assortment of marine life just off the coast of Kenting. (Fairly easily assessible by shore dives...)The only draw backs are usually the crowds and the traffic. (Be sure to have hotel reservations if you come on a summer weekend...)

No Pics Just Tips

by TERRYANDERSON

All my pics did not turn out. What a lost! I had fun and the night life was alive and well. People was so hospitable. I was the only Westerner there it seemed and nobody cared. They treated me like I lived there. I need to return there, especially Taiwan.

Changhua

by PtiteCarotte

This is one of the largest Buddha Statue in the world. Called Da Fo Xiang( Great Buddha statue) it is 22m high and heighs almost 300 tonnes. If you are curious and are interested to see what this buddha eats and thinksyou can go inside and visit its stomach and its head!

Tip Photo
LUKANG (temples)

by PtiteCarotte

There are a lot of Temples all around Taiwan. But the oldest are in LUKANG.It was a thriving port in the 15th century and remained in activity until 1895, when the Japanese closed it. This town is also very interested for its old narrow alleys. . Just wander through these alleys and you will feel the past coming back!If you go and visit Lukang, please take a while to stop in Changhua. There is a giant Buddha Statue, which is 22 m high and weighs almost 200 tones.

Dragon And Tiger

by Arm-Chair-Hero

The dragon and tiger pagodas are situated on the edge of Kaohsiung....they are extremely beautiful to see and are well worth a visit. The entrance is free but it is polite to make a donation when entering. You go through the dragons mouth and come out of the tigers mouth....inside there are many pictures painted on the walls symbolising hell and heaven........I read a write up on this in a popular world wide travel book......I was dissapointed.....it is very nice to see and visit but the book builds it up to much. The area in general around here is very nice and there are quite a few places like temples etc etc to visit.....it is well worth having a look.It can be a bit tight for parking if using a car, so best option if coming from Kaohsiung is by motor bike......you definately need a camera.

Coastline

by bafgkm

Hit the coastline, enjoy the nature, forget the troublesome......I love watching the sea, the waves and hear the sound of them. In sunny days, the big blue sky smiles to people, while in cloudy days, the atmosphere is still welcoming. No chat and gossip, just feel it !

Chunghsing Pagoda, Cheng Lake

by keeweechic

At 43 metres high, the pagoda is the largest in the area. There is a winding staircase (which I made the poor Professor from Ohio climb:-) which gives wonderful views over Cheng Lake (the largest in Kaohsiung), the golf course and other towers and pavilions..
