A taste of old Taiwan

Although the picture makes Lukang look pretty crowded, don't be turned off by all the people. The picture was taken during the Lantern Festival, which is a Chinese festival that takes place 15 days after the first day of the lunar new year. Actually, if you visit Lukang on a weekday, it's relatively quiet, speaking, of course, in Taiwan terms. This is a great place to see old Taiwanese, Chinese & Japanese culture before the 101 tower and factories took over to make the skyline in Taiwan look hazy to say the least.Chungshan Road runs through the center of this small town, and if you take a bus from Changhua, it'll drop you off on that road. You can see lots of interesting places just by walking. You can visit local Matsu Temple, Tienhou, that claims to house the oldest Matsu statue in Taiwan (Matsu is the Goddess of the Sea-an important icon in Taiwan for obvious reasons). Oyster...
