Taipei 101 is focused by people around the world. The exterior design of the building is based on the appearance of a bamboo. People can take world's fastest elevator to the top of Taipei 101 to see the full view of the city. It is a must visit when you're in Taipei. Not going there means not going to Taipei at all. It is a bit pricey though costing NT$400 per head.
Taipei 101 Mall is a multi-story retail mall adjoining the tower and is home to hundreds of fashionable stores, restaurants, clubs and other attractions. The mall's interior is modern in design even as it makes use of traditional elements. Really classy & high-end mall. Didn't expect to find a NT$10M watch being displayed in one of the shops inside the mall. Still worth going to even if you don't have plan to take the fastest elevator to the top.
CKS Memorial Hall is an impressive structure, built to commemorate the late President Chiang Kai-shek, contains an art gallery and lecture hall, and is surrounded by Chinese-style gardens. It is a favorite leisure spot for Taipei residents. Inside can be seen an old model car donated by rich Filipino-Chinese taipans to the late president. Opening hours: 9am-6:30pm. Admission is free.
Wulai Atayal Museum is an important stronghold of the nation's Atayal culture preservation, research, and development. It collects the Atayal village lifestyle, weaving culture, musical instruments, and craftworks. It also offers weaving education and experience activities, as well as guiding service. This museum is found along Wulai Old Street. Close on Mondays. Tickets NT$50. Students NT$25.
Wulai Waterfall with a beautiful epithet "Swift flow from the clouds, it rushes down from a height of 80 meters. It is the highest hanging distributary waterfall in Taipei. After Wulai Old Street, you pass by Lansheng Bridge to the Trolley Station. You have to climb stairs to go up the station. Take trolley to see the waterfall. There are shops & cafe around the area. Trolley ride costs NT$50.
Wulai Hot Spring is a light base carbonic hot spring. The hot spring water is transparent, without any color or taste. It is said to be moisturizing to the skin if bathed in, and helpful to stomach problems if drunk. At the intersection of winter and spring, the crimson cherry blossoms attract tourists to Wulai to enjoy the blossoms, the hot spring, as well as the local aboriginal cuisine.
Getting down in Wulai, we first went to Wulai Old Street. Here, you can sample their food display in stores along the road. There are plenty of shops & eateries selling local specialties. You can taste aboriginal food here. This place has plenty of tourist & a bit crowded. Wulai Atayal Museum can be found along the street.
Baiyang Trail entails lots of walking. It passes through multiple dark tunnels so it is essential to bring flashlights with you. The hike takes up to at least 2 hours. You pass by hanging bridge as well as get a good view of a waterfall. After the last tunnel, you will end up at the Water Curtain Cave.
After hiking through the Baiyang Trail with a number of dark tunnels, you will end up in Water Curtain Cave. Water curtain is a special scene created by spring water falling from the tunnel roof. Unfortunately, the danger of roof collapse means that the other water curtains are out of bounds. The ground rock after Water Curtain (Shui-lian-dong) is loose and there is danger of a collapse so at present visitors are only allowed to the entrance of the first Water Curtain. Bring raincoat to protect yourself from getting wet.
The Tunnel of Nine Turns is an area of surpassing beauty. After the Jhueilu Cliff, Taroko Gorge winds along a serpentine path that is echoed by the highway that sharply curves through tunnels above. This area is as much a scenic attraction as it is an engineering marvel.
