Taroko Lunch

by limledi

Our guide Mr. Lu Lai-Fu brought us to a place overlooking a beautiful view to enjoy our lunch. We bought our lunch in Hualien first before starting our tour of Taroko Gorge. The meal is really cheap for only NT$60 complete set with yogurt & soup.

Swallow Grotto

by limledi

The marble faces on both sides of Swallow Grotto are pitted with holes that provide nesting spots for the grotto's namesake birds. Flocks of both house swifts and Pacific swallows can often be sighted shuttling through the air here in spring and summer, their calls filling the gorge. Opposite of Swallow Grotto is the site of a former village of the Atayal aboriginals. The Taroko National Park Administration is building a scenic trail here for visitors.

Shakadang Trail

by limledi

Shakadang Trail in Taroko runs along a steep cliff heading north along its namesake river. The trail is lushly forested and winds through a terrain abundant in animal and plant resources and breathtaking view of the gorge, with its richly varied rock and marble formations. In March and April, thousands of fireflies light the trail. This is a good place to learn more about the local aboriginal culture and experience the local natural beauty.

Taroko National Park

by limledi

Taroko National Park is an impressive 19-km-long canyon, situated near Taiwan's east coast. It is composed mainly of marble and granite and features a lot of different hiking trails. The name, Taroko, means the "magnificent and splendid" in the language of Truku, the aboriginal tribe who resides in the area.

Ximending Pedestrian Mall

by limledi

Ximending Pedestrian Mall is a favorite hangout for young people. The shops surrounding the pedestrian zone in Hanzhong St., Wuchang St. and Emei St are particularly popular. In the evenings of weekends and public holidays, this area is transformed into a paradise where visitors can enjoy themselves for the entire night. A large department store circle has appeared in Ximending since June 2005, which inject new energy in Ximending.

Keelung Miaokou Night Market

by limledi

Keelung's Miaokou Night Market is famous throughout Taiwan for its large selection of food. It meanders through lanes and alleys in the downtown area surrounding the Dianji Temple. The night market is easily accessible on foot for most travelers arriving from other cities. From the Keelung railway station walk east straight along the street following the harbor in the direction of the Keelung Harbor Bureau (identifiable at night by its large orange neon sign. The night market is roughly one block from the point where you cross a freeway overpass.
