Shao Liu Chiou

by matt_of_asia

Shao-Liu-Chiou (SLC) Island is a nice 2 day excursion (1 day to get to and explore for afternoon/evening, one day to explore, same day back to Taiwan.). It is worth seeing 1 time- but it is so small you can get bored quick. It is only about a 1/2 scooter drive around the perimeter so you end up back where you started suprisingly fast. it is probably the smallest Island I have visited while out here in SE asia and oceania. Basically its a fishing island with a growing Tourism industry. That being said it is still a nice, pretty tropical island escape ad you get away from the feeling of being in 'taiwan' on a discount price -and its more relaxed. Its a good quiet place to escape the noise of 'mainland' taiwan for a short time. When I left everyone said there was no seven-eleven there but that issue is now changed. Its there in its green and red glory sucking money out of the tourists!...

Getting there to Taipei "Free & Easy"

by KenzoNick

Being to Taipei on many occassions and read up plenty of initinery provided by many travel agency, I concluded it is far better n economical to explore this great city on Free & Easy mode. Why spend S$1,000 for 7 days and rush thru the entire journey. It's a holiday and holidays are meant to relax at slower pace. Tour guides will recommend certain shop, simpily becoz tour guide get commissions of up 25%. So you hurried & rushed and you probably visit 50% of the entire place. Do you want to miss all the beautiful views? Surely with the advance of the internet, everyone can get the most updated information about a place of interest or what's in?A Free n easy trip to taipei is easy for beginners, I recommend the Dong Long Hotel at Xi Men Ting. Easy access to MTR, eatery & lots of shopping to do. It is also where the youngsters gather n to be seen kind of place, they are totally dressed to...

TaiJungGang (taichung harbor)

by matt_of_asia

TaijungGang is primarily a fish market and is an interesting place to visit and has a nice walking area nearby to wander before you make your purchase. You can do some fishing boat spotting, I believe short tourist boat trips are available, but it sounded kind of boring to me, just a quick run out to look at a lighthouse from far away and back. I didnt go, but perhaps someone else has.We started the day by scooting down to the harbor from central Taichung (about 45 mins to an hour by scooter) and we wandered around the park next to it for a bit. The park has maintenance issues from past typhoon damage. however, the park is still attractive in a quiet kind of civilization reverting to wilderness way. Check out the sand dunes eating the shelters! After hanging around the park area and wandering along the coast wall and wandering in the sand dunes, we headed to get some lunch and enjoyed...

Yehiu Geo Park

by Burtty

Located at the north coast of Taiwan, the rocks were eroded by the waves and the winds and shaped to several interesting figures. The most common ones are like a mushroom. The most famous one of them are the "Head of Queen" which looks quite like the one in the British Pence.

Yang Ming Mountain National Park

by Burtty

Yang Ming Mountain National Park The park is famous for its unique volcanic geology and topographical sights, with signs of volcanic activity likefumaroles and hot springs everywhere. Despite of its small size compared to Taiwan's other national parks, you can see a variety of beautiful natural scenes in its vicinity such as the special milky lake, the grassland with the cows roaring around, the steep mountain where you can see the view of Taipei city, and the steam vents which are formed when the high- temperature volcanic gases spurt out through the earth's surface. You can also go to the hot spring restaurant to take a hot spring bath and some nice dishes. Enjoying a good soak in a steaming, silky-smooth hot spring set amid beautiful natural scenery is one of life's greatest pleasures. In case you come in the seasons of the winter or the spring, when are the flower seasons, you may...

Sun Moon Lake

by jorgejuansanchez

I went to this charming lake with friends from Taichung to Shui-li, and further to the lake, at about 50 kilometres distance. Sun Moon Lake is so beautiful! I hired a boat to cross it and paddled to an island called Lalu, a sacred place for local people. There are temples around it and beautiful gardens. It is a lovely place to spend half a day relaxing and enjoying the delightful atmosphere.

Kenting National Park

by chewy3326

Kenting National Park, established in 1982, was the first national park in the Republic of China. Kenting preserves one of Taiwan's most delicate habitats: a coral reef. However, most visitors to the park aren't there for the coral (which can only be accessed by diving) but instead for the park's white sand beaches. Other sights include Taiwan's southernmost point (Eluanbi), Taiwan's second southernmost point (Maobitou) (Cat's Nose) and a few sections of rugged coastline. This national park also happens to be the most visited in Taiwan, so also watch out for the crowds. Occasionally, typhoons blow through the area, closing off the beaches. Another sight at Kenting (which I didn't visit) is a small section of tropical rain forest, the only one in Taiwan.
