*Airplane: I'd say the best...

by kiely

*Airplane:I'd say the best way and kinda the only way of coming to Taiwan is taking airplanes . But why not , faster and more comfortable , rite ?*MRT:Taipei has a good MRT system , you can get to nearly every place in the shortest time if you take MRT . *Scooters:It's little. But it will get you everywhere without worrying rush hours too much.

Tai-Railroad

by THLIN

It would be convenient to travel through rail in Taiwan. But it cost more and speed is relatively slow. Service has been improved gradually. Tai-Railroad service all around the island. You can even take to Mt. A-li where is more than 3,000meters.The lunch box sold on the train is quite old-fashion. Not bad to give it a try.

Northwest Airlines

by Don_Wright

Northwest Airlines runs a regular route from their USA main hub in Detroit, Michigan to Taipei, via Osaka, Japan and Tokyo, Japan.Flight 69 and 70 everyday. Here we are at the Chiang Kai Shek Airport in Taipei, my girlfriend and her brother, saying good bye to her brother and thanks for driving us to the airport, getting ready to fly back to Detroit!

Taipei City bus, an adventure

by evonne

As the capital of Taiwan, Taipei City has the most convinient mass transportation system all over the island. Taking buses in Taipei City is sometimes an adventure. Some buses are new, broad and comfortable while the others are old, narrow and tend to squeak when running. Although the government is establishing the city's MRT system, bus system is denser and can show you a deeper side of the city. The bus system in Taipei is not very user-friendly and in rush hours taking buses may not be a good choice. Travelers would better be aware.

The circle railway of the island

by evonne

Taiwan Railway company operats all of the railways in Taiwan. The railway actually encircles the island, so travelers will have few chances to 'get wrong direction'. There are four classes of trains with deffirent speed, stop station, cabin facility and price. Travelers better notice that on holidays seats are hard to book. On website passengers can book tickets within 7 days and at station desk tickets within 3 days are sold.

Public bus

Each individual bus driver choose whether the passenger pays when boarding or when alighting. There is no fixed rule. If you mistaken pays when you board, be sure to get a pass from the driver to show that you have paid.

Eva Airlines and China...

by Hexepatty

Eva Airlines and China Airlines... the two national carriers. Perhaps there are more (certainly there are more domestic airlines) but Eva and China Air are the primary Major Carriers with extensive int'l routes. China Air is the 'step-sister' to Eva Air... and it shows! Look at their safety record. DOH! Any airline that can TAKE OFF ON A TAXIWAY (happened about two years ago in Alaska one snowy nite!) shows that they have some pretty 'interestin' pilots. (Bet I COULD fly for them. Yikes...) But: China Air is cheap. Ya buys yer ticket - ya takes yer chances! (Oh, like the new acquisition to my 'bulging at the kitchen cabinet seam' Airline Carrier Serviceware collection: The China Airline glass and silverware set. )From the Int'l Airport to Taipei, it's about 30 kilometers.. a $4USD bus ride (takes about 1 hour) or a $30USD cab ride (takes 20 minutes). Do the 'time vs money' formula to...

Riding a bike

by PtiteCarotte

If you like to discover places alone, if you prefer adventure than well organised tourists trips, then try to find a byke! No need to buy it, ask people around, and they would advise you a place where to get a chip one, and perhaps lend you one they don't really use. I was lended one and I used to go and ride it every morning from 6 to 8. I used it to wander in the street, to visit lakes and temples...Such a pleasant and useful way to discover hidden temples, strange neighboorhoods and un tourisical places.Be careful if you ride from 8 pm, as the trafic is much more dense and may be very dangerous if you are not used to it. It is like riding a byke in the middle of the Jungle. There are motos, people, cars and trucks going in any sense. You can also findyourself in front of instable heavy pasta tow !

Yellow taxis

by Arm-Chair-Hero

There are plenty of taxis in Taiwan and they are quite easy to spot.........they are all yellow....guys some of you will be happy to catch the taxi because most of them seem to be suped up motors. The prices are quite cheap but the driving can be fast and furious..I guess most drivers for taxis are in training for the grand prix. One thing that can be a little strange is that constantly whilst walking in busy areas the taxis will sound there horn to attract you attention, after a while this can be frustrating but eventually you get used to it.

Rev em up

by Arm-Chair-Hero

Using a motor bike around Taiwan is by far the best way for travelling unless you are going long distances. The major roads can be quite congested and are much more freindly for the bike. If you are going for a good look around the island, a car will be more practical....just make sure the air con works ; )Buses are there in Taiwan but to be honest I found it difficult to get information on times and locations and even spotting a bus.Trains are very clean and tidy and also efficient...the price of travelling by train is very reasonable and has to be considered when going relatively short journeys out and around where you are staying. If you are going to Tapei and want to get down to Kaohsiung or visa versa, flying is by far the best option....if my memory is correct it will cost you only 30-40 pounds....soon as you are up in the air it is time to come back down.
