Rocky Road

Careful when venturing off the beaten path in Taiwan.... The rural roads are narrow, windy cliff hangers, and as an added bonus, often earthquake damaged...Even my 4WD truck came perilously close to getting stuck on this particular path...

Taiwan's Favorite Mode Of Transport

by Kurtdhis

Imagine that buildings go right up to the street, except that the first floor of each building is set back from the street about ten or twelve feet, and there is a sidewalk under the second floor of the building, in the setback. In theory, you would walk in the shade, away from the street. In practice, the sidewalk is full of commerce and parked scooters, and the curb lane (where the scooters are supposed to drive; there are a lot of scooters in Taiwan) is full of scooters and parked cars, and so you weave back and forth and spend a lot of time walking in the middle of the street. The traffic is an abomination. When you cross the street, you take your life into your hands. We took to trusting the locals and ignoring the traffic signals. When you see the locals sprint through the rushing herd of scooters, you sprint too. New York traffic has nothing, I mean nothing on Kaohsiung traffic....

Travel around Taiwan

by Levente_D

Travel in Taiwan is easy! The main cities are connected by domestic airlines, bus companies are taking people everywhere, there is a great high way system so you can travel arround with your own car or take a train! Between some cities and some islands there are also ferry connections! In Taipei things are even easier! The most popular places can be reached by using the modern MRT (Mass Rapid Transport). If you look for some adventure take a bus! The adventure in this is that there are no English inscriptions just the first and the last stations ... also those just on the bus!You can use a taxi as well, because there is always 1 taxi near you but be prepeared! The taxi drivers usually don't speak other than Chineese ... and better if you have a name card (visit card) of the place where you want to go so it's easier to show the driver the destination! For the same reasons is better if you...

by AndreasK

Chichin, a long island with an average width of only 200 meters, is the cradle of Kaohsiung City. The city government has spent a huge amount of money developing Chichin as a popular tourist spot called the Chichin Seashore Park. One of the special characteristics of Chichin is its tourist pedicabs, the only place in Taiwan where you can still experience this once-popular mode of transportation.

by Janice_Pai

I think the most convenient way to get around Taiwan is taking the train. Just don't miss the station that you want to get off. Check out the link of Taiwan Railway. You can order the ticker online as long as you know where to go.http://www.railway.gov.tw/taiwan/indexe.html
