AIRLINE TRANSPORTATION

by judyintaiwan

AIRLINE TRANSPORTATIONIn addition to the services offered by hotels, excellent public services to and from CKS International Airport are available including bus, taxi, and car rental. The cost of 24-hour taxi service to the city is about NT$1,000(US$32) to NT$1,500(US$48). The cost of car rental service ranges from NT$1,000(US$32) to NT$2,000(US$64) depending on having a chauffeur or driving yourself. There are currently four major bus line services available. They are Evergreen(ªøºa¤Ú¤h), Air Bus(¤j¦³¤Ú¤h), Free Go Bus(¸ª¯¤Ú¤h), and Taiwan Motor(¥x¨T). Cost for adults ranges from NT$65(Taiwan Motor) to NT$120(Air Bus). Buses run from Taipei to CKS Int'l Airport between 5AM to 2AM and from CKS Int'l Airport to Taipei between 5AM to 2AM. by rumpletzer

I travel from Los Angeles or Santa Barbara to Taipei or Koahsiung (via Taipei) by plane, of course. I buy tickets online through Expedia or Tavelocity. I've not found anything much less expensive. If I enter Taiwan via the CKS (Taipei) Airport, I take an air-conditioned bus with these huge lounge sofa chairs down to Tainan. The buses leave directly from the airport. It costs less than NT$600 for the five hour bus ride, and it's very comfortable. If I enter Taiwan through Kaohsiung, I usually catch a local bus or taxi from the airport and head to the train station... or friends or family come to get me! I hardly speak Chinese. It's easy to get around Taiwan regardless of the fact.In Tainan I walk a lot or take cabs or even the local bus. I often take the train to see friends in Kaohsiung. The trains and buses run regularly, and (in my experience) you could set your watch by the train...

The Taipei Mass Rapid...

by choberygoo

The Taipei Mass Rapid Transit(MRT) is clean, modern, bright, spaceous, and full of public art. It's very much what the New York City Subway isn't....sigh. However the MRT does not operate 24hrs a day and the infrequency of the trains could suffocate impatient passengers like me during late night hours. Take it. It beats getting stuck on the road or risking your life on a scooter battling with other scooter riders. I tell you, those scooters possess their riders and they mean to kill.

CKS is the international airport in Taiwan, it's located near Taipei, in Tow-Yuan city. There are so exclusive shuttle buses between Taipei and CKS, only take $4 usd or little more to Taipei. I have to say, transportation in Taiwan is not very conventient.. i guess only in Taipei, it's better. If you visit Taipei, go around by bus and MRT will be better. Many places will sell bus guide book, such like bookstores, newspaper peddler... You can get the MRT brochure in any MRT station, then transfer to the exactly place you want by bus. About getting around in other cities, you could take trains, or airplanes, then when you arrive somewhere, rent a car will be fine. (I think around $60 usd per day..)

From the airport which is fairly far from Taipe, there is a bus (watch your luggage, it's been known to disappear if it's not in the right bin)that brings you to the train station in the center of town. The train station is a building worth seeing. It looks more like a huge temple or palace from the outside. From there catch a cab to your hotel.Taxis have the reputation to rip off their customers. I dont think it ever happened to me. But who knows, maybe the museum was just around the corner and not 10 miles away after all...

Taxi fare is not too high, but taxi drivers don't speak English. You have to prepare a note writing the place you want to go in Chinese.MRT in Taipei is convenient. If you are not in a hurry, bus is good.

If you're in Taipei, the buses are very convenient. Also now that the tram has a wider range than before, it's also a viable alternative to get around. If you really don't like public transportation then the taxis are numerous and most won't try to rip you off.
