Don't drive!

by kaipow

There are a lot of cars, motorcycles, and scooters in Taiwan so there tends to be a lot of crazy driving. Cabs making their own lanes, scooters riding on sidewalks, and bumping cars just to squeeze in to a parking space. Parking is really bad! So avoid driving if you can.

Island fortress

by CliffClaven

You don't have to spend much time on Taiwan to realise that it is an island fortress, constantly alert for any aggressive move from the mainland. There may not be tanks at every corner, but you are certain to hear Taiwanese jets screaming overhead in readiness to repel any incursion by the People's Liberation Army.(photo courtesy Wei-Bin Chang)
