For me, the biggest tourist trap without doubt was Great Game Company. They charge for almost everything and are even that impudent to charge 25 USD for the short distance of 3 km from their …. Spot to the airport – just for the pleasure to ride in the car of Mr. butt-cavity Rick.
A normal taxi charges 15 Somoni = 4 USD (mid 2006), and according to Anna, these 4 USD were even too high.

The bigger hotels in Dushanbe are vastly overpriced compared to the services they provide.
Unique Suggestions: Bite your teeth together and go with it, or look for ways of getting a dicount. It helps to have local discounts and getting local price, and this is an option during slack seasons. If on a paid business trip, find a hotel in your price category that is not under refurbishment and move there if the first choice is unbearable.
Fun Alternatives: There are cheaper categories, but real guest houses are few and far between. Use guide books and locals to find alternatives.

Uncovered manholes! How can they not put the manhole cover back on the sewage system? An indication to me about systemic fauilure and lack of private and public responsibility.
So my basic warning is about awareness that Dushanbe's manhole covers may just not be in place.
Unique Suggestions: Bring a flotation device and a good snorkel.
Fun Alternatives: For eveings a light torch light might be handy to check for traps like these in Dushanbe.
