Yurt

The nomad tent is both beautiful and practical. It keeps the heat out in the summer and the cold out in the winter. It does not like damp areas but can stand up to rain in moderate quantities. Yurts come in different sizes and they can be up to 10 to 12 metres in diameter Seen from the door the left side of the yurt is the man’s and the right side is the woman’s. In the woman’s half we find the kitchen department where food is prepared and kitchen utensils stored. On the man’s side are placed weapons, equestrian equipment and other things that belong to men.

Just walk around (escorted) and see the people and history. In the museum in Penjikent are fabulous things to see, although a lot was moved to St. Petersburg at one time. The women in the lobby are determined to sell you goods. They are beautiful handmade things and very cheap! Give in at once or they will follow you through the place! The archeological sites are great in this country as well. Also there are great outdoor sports like hang gliding etc!!!!

Opera Ballet Square

One nice place to rest some in Dushanbe is on the Opera Ballet square. In Summer plenty of small restaurants selling Shashlick with onions....Due to fountain it is a cool place to be.
