We went in as the place looked quite busy which says to me that the food will be fresh & you can check out the plates of food on the tables as you walk to your seat. We sat inside under the fans.
Favorite Dish: We started with spring rolls & tempura prawns , then I had the Pad Thai with chicken .( very yummy) I ordered a cocktail & it did take a while to come out called a Zombie & it was really quite small and I dont think they were over generous with the alcohol. Amy had the red curry chicken. Kyle had the grilled fish and chips which seeing they were a seafood restaurant this was comapratively expensive to the other dishes & quite a small sized serve.

Our second night we walked along the beach after getting a bit lost and found Coconut Garden resort. There were already two large tables of people here so that was a good sign for us. It was such a contrast to the previous night we sat at tables on the sand. Sharran & I treated ourselves to cocktails. I had a Maitai & she a Pina Colada you could day these became our signature drinks for this trip. We were extremely surprised how potent & large these cocktails were, good value for 130TB. ($5.70)
Most of the dishes shared by the Neil & Kev were 100Baht each except they had a crab dish which was a little more. The kids had European style food all cooked very yummy. The best of the night though were what Sharran & I ordered. Baked Crab in a casserole. They came out in little metal pots VERY HOT and had the best sauce. We slurped & sucked out every juicy little morsel of crab. The serves here were larger and we ordered more dishes plus alcoholic drinks & the meal only came to 2500Baht ($55 each family).
Favorite Dish: On our second visit to Coconuts I had the grilled prawn with chilli to start followed by Thai Green curry chicken. Of course Sharran & I had another cocktail this time a Singapore Sling. Amy had the spag bol Kyle the chicken schnitzel & chips. Neil had spring rolls to start and the cordon bleu. Kev testing the strength of his taste buds had the pork tom yum sauce……..wew hottttttt!!!!!
Total this time was 2090 ($45 each)

We had been to this restaurant many times on our 2006 trip. It had been owned by a Belgian Guy and he had his sister staying with him helping in the restaurant. Our children had really loved the food and the service was extremely friendly & the tables were full up most nights. I always like to eat somewhere that is busy. On our first night of the 2009 trip after telling the friends who were traveling with us how great le ceverin was we were disappointed to find out that it had new owners and the name had changed.
It was now called Jan Thai and was owned by a French guy. It was a little bit strange that we seemed to be the only ones dining on a Friday night and we weren’t there really early. Later we would find out why. We had spring rolls as starters which were delicious but a very small serve. Neil and Amy had the steak which was very tough. This really disappointed Neil as the previous owner had supplied the very best quality steak and that is why we kept going back. I had the Thai Green curry nice & spicy but it was mostly full of Aubergine and not enough chicken at all. The other weird thing was that if you wanted rice with your dishes this was extra even the steamed rice. I’ve never had a green curry before without getting the rice included even in Bali! Maddy had ordered fried rice to go with her chicken curry but got plain. Kevin had the Pork in Garlic pepper – very hot .Kyle had ordered the chicken schnitzel and waited & waited. It came out last as nearly everyone else was finished.
Favorite Dish: The bill came to 2800 Baht which was $61.40 per family of four. To us this seemed expensive especially as Sharran & I didn’t have alcoholic drinks and each serve was quite small. Needless to say it was our first & last time we ate there. Most times we walked past only one or two tables were occupied.

White Orchid restaurant serves great Thai food as well as wonderful BBQ seafood (see picture)
Set on the beach road over looking Kamala Bay. It is a little bit out of the way but that means you sometimes have a table on the beach all to yourselves. The restaurant has been totally rebuilt since the tsunami. The owner is called Eed and she offers free pick-up from your hotel in Kamala. As we had met Eed & her daughter Sophia on our first trip in 2000 she spoilt us with lifts to & from our hotel. Fireworks on the beach on our last night. And even presents for us all.
Favorite Dish: We always like to have one really special night out while on holidays so we treated ourselves to the White Orchid specialty ( see photo) the BBQ seafood platter for 2 which comes with a whole grilled fish, whole lobster, whole crab 9 prawns ,vegetables , fried rice & a carafe of wine. It was all delicious. With meals for the kids & loads to drink the night came to 2300Bht ($77Aud)
For one of our lunches we had an Australian steak .The kids loved the chicken strips & chips. I had tempura prawns & their white Orchid spring rolls all great too...With drinks the bill came to 860thb ($30).
On our last night we enjoyed the fillet steak( Hubby) chicken strips & chips (kids), Tiger prawn cakes to start & Squid in coconut curry (me). 4 beers , 2 wines, 4 cool drinks all up 1360BHT ($47)
a great way to spend our last night in Kamala.

SITUATED ON THE MAIN ROAD THRU KAMALA THAT RUNS FROM PATONG TO SURIN. WE DISCOVERED THIS RESTAURANT ON OUR SECOND TRIP TO PHUKET IN 2006. THE FOOD IS GREAT THE STAFF (A BROTHER & SISTER TEAM FROM BELGIUM OR SWITZERLAND I BELIEVE) ARE EXTREMELY ATTENTIVE. NOTHING WAS TOO MUCH TROUBLE WITH OUR ORDERS PLUS WE DIDN'T FEEL THE ODD ONES OUT EVEN THOUGH WE WERE OFTEN THE ONLY TABLE WITH CHILDREN ON IT & WE WEREN'T EUROPEAN.
WERE ATE THERE A FEW TIMES DURING OUR STAY.
Favorite Dish: FILLET STEAK 220THB , MUSHROOM SAUCE & FRIES WITH A SALAD STARTER. BEEF CURRY, TUNA BAGETTE FOR MY SON, CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP FOR MY DAUGHTER. ALL UP 760THB WITH DRINKS FOR 4 ($26.20AUD)
SECOND VISIT I HAD THE SEAFOOD NOODLES
THIRD DINNER; 2 STEAKS , BEEF SCHNITZEL, THAI GREEN CHICKEN CURRY , WINE , BEER, COKE & LEMON JUICE. (ALL UP $36AUD)

The food is way overpriced. You can just walk to the real beach and get the exact same thing plus better for a lot cheaper without the rude owner watching you as well.
For breakfast I was served a plate full of hair. Not just 1 but a lot of hair.
Not to mention it's more dangerous on this end as you can see from the crime scene in front of the hotel.
It was disgusting.
