Favorite thing: We were told there is a law in Bangkok that bans fishing in the klongs up to 50 metres from any Wat, and because of this the fish congregate around the Wats. I believe that really it's due to the bread that tour guides sell to tourists to throw in the water at a Wat which attracts the fish.
I just want to underlining a 'theory' when I got history lesson in the elementary school. Many of big ancient kingdoms starting their golden era by the river. They start to build their power by the riverbanks. As happened in my own country; the Majapahit Empire. Angkor Wat in Cambodia and of course Kingdom of Thailand. I remember that when I go to the klong and find so many wat (vihara, chedi, stupa) which situated nearby the river.
Fondest memory: Wat Arun, Wat Po, Wat Prakaew, Klong Bangkok Yai, Klong Mon and .... the backyard of Jim Thompson House

Fondest memory: In the past, Bangkok and Thonburi people commuted from one to another by boat, and Khlongs were the principal means of transport.
Favorite thing: The housing alongside the klongs can vary from what looks like a wooden shack about to fall down to some very smart properties.
