Patpong is the infamous stretch of nightclubs and night bazaar in bangkok. Shopping wise, the stalls are almost selling the same thing and the items are usually pretty expensive, compared to Chatuchak and other places. You will really need to bargain hard. Try to look around first.... Item-wise, a lot of watches, sunglasses, bags and t shirts and thai handicrafts are sold at Patpong. But i would say they can be mor expensive than elsewhere. A lot of tourist like to visit Patpong for the tiger show and the bar top thai gals. Just be careful of being ripped off by the waiters and waitress. And the wait staff would stand at the entrance of the nightclub and just pull you in, you will have to really firm and say no. Even if they said the price is 100Baht, chances are by the time the tiger show is finished, you will need to pay thrice or five times the 100baht. Foodwise, if you are into extreme gourmet food, you are in the right place! I have personally seen hawkers @ Patpong selling fried cricket, croakaches and some unknown insects to me. I have yet to master my courage to put it my mouth and chew it. Not my cup of tea. =P Overall i would say that Patpong is more of a place whereby you go, take a look at the night scene of bangkok and not really spending money to buy the items. Just my 2 cents worth. =)

 | | | | Khao San Road: Khao San Road | Tip Rating: | | | | |
Khao San Road is THE PLACE to go if you look for young backpackers travelers ambiance! It is open all night, here you will find places open 24 h for a late dinner or an early breakfast. I spent there 4 hours 1 night, from 5 to 9 am, though it was not voluntarily: I took the previous night the Sabaidee bus from Vientiane (Laos), that was supposed to arrive in KSR at 8 in the morning. So, I though, I would have a quick breakfast, leave the luggage and would go visit a few things in BKK! BUT the bus arrived "a bit" early, at 5 am!!! So there I was, in the middle of KSR, along with the last drunk partiers, totally dark all around. Luckily enough, Nat Guest House terrace was open, so I sat there and had some time to finish my Diaries, complete some watercolors, read a bit, see a whole movie, have 2 breakfasts and connect for a (long) while to internet... | | | | Silom - Soi 2 and Soi 4: House, Techno, Drum n Bass, ... | Tip Rating: | | | | |
I would recommend Tapas for those who like house, drum n bass, or those tunes of the same category. The resident dj's here play pretty good music. There are 3 floors: 1st, 2nd and the rooftop. The rooftop is more likely for special private events. Usually, people like to sit outside. In my opinion, the outdoor area of Tapas looks best in that street (Silom soi 4). A good day to go there is on Fris and Sats. On weekdays, you might find the place rather empty though there are always people taking a seat chilling outside. Their customers are around 20's-30's.
