Nana Plaza, Bangkok
Nana Entertainment Plaza, commonly called Nana Plaza, is a three-story building with an enclosed courtyard.
The entire building and courtyard are full of bars all pumping out music and each one with "welcome staff" out the front talking up their bar to get you inside.
Most of the bars are of the a-go-go type bars with lots of female dancers with very little on! The only other businesses other than bars are a restaurant (Woodstock) and two short-time hotels (Spirit House and Taboo).
It's another world and one that a single guy could very easily get used too!
Dress Code: Whatever you like
If you are looking for a place to be at night to party out. This place might be one of the place you want to visit. The place has 2 floors being a few pubs at the entrance and the rest filled with Ah Go-go bars. Quite a nice place to just chill out and have a beer but personally ah go-go bars is not really my scene. The pubs were a pretty nice place to hang out and you can play some locals games with the local. Just becareful as the working ladies there will tend to get you to have some special services. Unless you are genuinely interested, having a drink is good enough..
Dress Code: Anything goes...
Nana Plaza (a red light district) in Sukhumvit is home to a number of GoGo bars. It is a fun place to pull up a chair and watch the people come and go and try to spot the kathoeys (ladyboys). Pharaohs bar right in the middle of the plaza on the ground floor is a good place to drink and people watch.
Nana plaza is set over a couple of floors and has a number of the bars employ kathoeys only -Casanova and Cascade.
I found that we generally got left alone (my boyfriend and I) and didn't get any hassle, although that may not be said if it were a group of guys, but I guess they generally know what they are going there for. Not a place I would normally go to hang out but while in Bangkok... Worth going just for the experiance.
During evening hours if you go to Nana Plaza it might be quite annoing all the tuk-tuk drivers and other that trying to take you to massage place or what ever it is.
The idea is:
1. Walk into one of the pubs at Nana Plaza.
2. Pick up a nice looking girl.
3. Tell her you want her to be your company for this evening.
4. Pay the money to the bar. I think it's ~300 THB.
5. Enjoy your evening, nobody will bother you as far as Thai girl accompanies you.
6. When you want to sleep, give her money "for the taxi" and tell her you want to sleep so she can go home and bye bye. She will take the money and go back to the pub you picked her in.
Worked very well for me.
Dress Code: Free.
Try to avoid shorts.
Stepped into Fantasia being skeptical, after being ripped off at Patpong 6 months ago. The gogo bars are a replica of Patpong, but less sleazy and pple are more genuine. the girls look better too.
Got to watch the show at ease
Dress Code: Casual. Noone really cares, seriously as long as you pay for your drinks, and the afterservice, if you require.
This place was just a HUGE stip club. It was like 4 stories tall and packed with with men, women and tranny's. I was very drunk and accidentally stumbled into a tranny bar for a drink. I was amazed at how much they looked like women! I didnt even notice they weren't women until one of the "girls" told me.... that night could have ended badly but fortunately it didn't.
Dress Code: come naked if you want!
The Nana Plaza is a 3 story area with a courtyard setting. The area is filled to the rim with girlie bars, go-go bars, ladyboy bars and the general seedy atmosphere for somebody who is into this sort of thing and would like some company for the night. Personally, I was almost turned off by the gals, they all looked bored and not very enthusiastic. I mean really, do you really think beautiful young Thai women want to make it with fat, old and bald men. It is cool to see to stroll through just once, a unique environment for sure.
Dress Code: Anything goes. But the better you present yourself, the more girls will give you attention. Basically a common sense thing.
Bangkok is world renowned for its go-go bars and sex industry. Nana Entertainment Plaza is a red-light district, which is rumoured to be the largest sex complex in the world. It is located on Sukhumvit Road Soi 4 across from the Nana Hotel, within walking distance of the BTS Skytrain's "Nana Station".
The Plaza is in the shape of a square, with a single opening on the western side, and consists of a ground floor and two additional floors. It's packed with go-go bars which are located inside while the ground floor is full of bars with TV's showing mostly English Premier League football games so it's a place to come and watch TV and have a beer as well. Most bargirls working at bars are willing to leave with customers upon payment of a bar fine. However, all is not what it seems as Nana's is also home to a few ladyboy establishments who are just fascinating to look at and actually chat too as well. You can spot them (or should that be, some of them!) a mile off as they're dressed over-the-top and always 'tarting' themselves up (doing their hair or make-up) far more than the 'actual' bargirls. It's all quite funny. You can come here quite innocently and just have a beer and watch TV and chat to the girls.
I thought that Nana Plaza was a little too sleazy. Then again, i really didn't know what to expect the first time i went there. i figured since i was here, and all the girls came with price tags, why not have a foursome??? so i did.... i think i paid like 1000 Baht to each of them (including bar fine) so it wasn't oo pricy. Though i prefer to actually hook up with a girl and not have to pay but sometimes you just have to give things a try.
Dress Code: Thailand Casual:)
Nana Plaza is a very dangerous are when clubs shut. Basically the Katoeys, Ladyboys are there just to rob, drug or mug tourists. They have no other purpose. And remember they have the strength of men and volitlity of women. Possibly one of the mast dangerous places on the planet. Especially bad if you are drunk. Take care.
OK, I can hear some of the guys already groaning, thinking, whya re they even bothering, and yeah, I was a bit myself, but I'll try and answer your questions anyway.
There is not anyone of the three that you mentioned that are "safer" than the others. As always, using good judgement and common sense will prevail, but what does that mean in Bangkok?? If they charge a cover charge, then don't go in. Check and see how much their drinks, if you agree, then go ahead. And there is usually lot of farangs hanging around that you can ask which place is decently priced and go with that, probably your best bet. Buying ladies a drink never hurts, after all, you are there to see them are you not? It usually doesn't cost all that much more than yours and she is working hard to make a living. It's not like you have to buy them drinks all night long. Be friendly, you are in the land of smiles and the Thai's are as friendly as they come any where in the world, no matter their job. Yeah, you can say no, they usually wont be offended. As far as the hot chicks go, well, it's all relative. You can ask 10 guys and 50% of them will be divided on where to send you so just pick a place and bar hop, no reason why you can't see all three places in one night.
Good luck and have fun
Nana Plaza is another experience. It is two floors of different bars full of live entertainment and hardly clothed to topless (if not less) working girls. They take their turns on stage, holding on to poles, doing mindnumbingly monotonous body palpitations, and if you think it is boring to look at, have a look at their faces - they are bored silly, but it brings them money. When they are not on stage they are trolling the bar for guys and girls who are looking like they will buy them a drink or take them home. It is pretty full contact at times for workers and their clients in the bar although management generally discourages this.
At Nana, there are lots of losers who get an ego boost by thinking these women are attracted to them physically. Hard Lesson #1 – if you have a big nose and white skin, you have money. That is the attraction.
I should mention that many of the bars-businesses in Nana are Australian owned – nice that they make money off the skin of other cultures.
Also, not all the girls are over 18, the legal age Thai women may have consensual sexual relations. Some lie to get the job.
Now, I am under no delusion that some of these women don’t take advantage of the cold-cocked bedazzled fat-walletted men that can’t believe someone so beautiful came and sat beside them out of a crowd of men, but for the most part, it is the women that are being taken advantage of in this situation. They are not there because they want to be, but they have to work somewhere. They don’t get a lot for doing this – 6000-8000 baht a month with long hours, but it is something they can do with little to no education. Plus whatever they get if they are taken out of the bar for more action in private (this might include necessary medical attention when some lout roughs her up).
To take them from the bar, you pay the manager 500 baht or so to compensate him/her for the lost income of not having her indoors swinging from the fire poles.
Dress Code: Usually coming from a poor northeastern province without a lot of opportunity, the women don’t have much choice. Often bars employ scouts to go to villages and entice the young women. So you hear stories of a girl’s cousin from her own village convincing her and her friends to come work at this great restaurant in Bangkok, and when she gets there, THIS is what she meant?
Unfortunately, another reason Thai women work here is in hopes of meeting a foreign guy that might take them back to their country, in which life is of course better than here in Thailand. We have all seen or heard of the movie “Pretty Woman”, right? Again, love has nothing to do with this – it is about survival, escape, and misconceptions of an easier life. Foreign men for some reason have the reputation of being kind husbands. This error in judgement can often lead to abusive relationships where the Thai woman is far from home and helpless.
I have seen and talked to too many of these people, before and after having arrived in Bangkok, having worked on the social development side, trying to change conditions that force women to have to go work in these exploitative jobs.
Keep in mind that at any of these bars the sweetie sidling up to you with the big smile and buxom bod might be a man. A good way to check is the Adam’s apple – prominent on males, but surgery is making it harder to see this. A scarf of some sort around the neck is a give-away.
Well, I am rambling. I don’t suggest that you go and become a purveyor of these “Thai goods”, but it is interesting to go a see what these places are like. Some argue that at least this employs people. If you do not agree with this subjugation of Thai women, don’t spend any money. If you can, sit and have a talk with one of the workers that speaks English, and listen to her story. It will leave you walking away with an empty feeling. These are some of the ill effects of tourism in Thailand.
Patpong is the most touristy of the nightlife areas of bangkok but recently, the area is somewhat covered by the nightmarkets located at the middle of the street of patpong that you hardly see the seedy bars located at the rightside of the street. However, Nana Plaza and Soi Cowboy along the busy Sukhumvit road remain the hardcore nightlife areas of Bangkok for tourists and they don't have any night markets to cover the entrance! The Nana Plaza is a Nana Plaza Girls square shaped building which can be entered through the entrance way near to Sukhumvit road. Nana Plaza has a variety of Bangkok beer bars and some amazing Thai Go-Go bars which are located over three different floors. The hot Bangkok bar girls that are working at one the Nana Plaza Go Go bars or regular beer bars are almost all available for some special one on one fun back at your hotel.
Nana Plaza is situated in Sukhumvit Soi 4 which is a side street of the busy Sukhumvit road Once you approach the Nana Plaza you will be able to see the large Nana Entertainment Plaza sign which hangs above the entrance to this great Bangkok nightlife paradise. As soon as you walk into the complex you will find yourself being talked to and even grabbed by scores of some spectacular Nana Plaza sexy girls. It's jus a 3 Minute Walk from my hotel in Soi 5, amari bouevard hotel.
Dress Code: None, you don't need a dress code for SLEAZE!
There are about 40 bars. Most are bars where girls dance on stage in bikini outfit. However, there are also a lot of outside beer bars where you can just sit and enjoy the scene. Beer and other drinks are priced at 180 baht and more. ladies drinks at 350 baht and more.
its 3 floors of Go-Go bars and very interesting place to visit. The evening before I left for the airport I sat at the entrance in an open air bar just watching the people going in. My first night started and ended there not needing to go anywhere else. Beware the Katooeys or lady boys or you may end up getting something you weren't expecting. Unless I suppose your intlo that sort of thing.
Dress Code: None that I was aware of.
Nana Plaza is a courtyard filled with small bars with hostess girls. Around the courtyard is a 3 storey building full of bars and pole dancing clubs. Most are full of girls, but I did pass one lady boy bar.
If this is your sort of thing, I would recommend heading straight to the top floor. The bars are bigger, and there is more of a show going on.
Dress Code: I don't think there is a dress code.
