    Besides sex shops, Patpong is also a large night market. The pavement along Silom and Patpong are transformed into a busy market for garments and other products after sunset. You can find everything here: ready-to-wear garments, imitation watches & bags, pirated CDs, Clocks, leather goods, handicrafts, etc. Bargaining is a must at this lively market. Everything is marked up 500% higher! I personally do not enjoy this style of bargaining-shopping, sort of tiring and time consuming.

    What can you say? There is certainly a seedy side to Bangkok that is renowned to the World, whether the Thais like it or not. The main areas are around Patpong and Nana. Walk along the few Sois of Patpong, as well as Soi Thaniya and you will be treated to a scene not quite unlike the Red Light District in Amsterdam. Although much subdued these days compared to the past, you will see night clubs and bars with ladies in the skimpiest of bikinis prancing around poles and teasers passing out flyers or coercing you to enter to see "amazing" shows such as "pussy blowing a ping pong ball" etc. Walk along Soi Thaniya at night, and you will see ladies loitering along the streets with their pimps standing outside nightclubs and bars, trying their best to lure you in. Not the prettiest of sight. On the other side of Patpong, along Thanon Surawong, you will find a quarter that basically caters to the gay (or gay curious) clientele. Here, you will see signs screaming "boys" and rows of bars packed with guys and needless to say, almost devoid of lady folks.

    Patpong road is a well know red light district located between Silom road and Suriwong road.It was founded by a family in the 1960s. Patpong is two streets with both downstairs and upstairs bars.There is also a night market The best known and established bars are the King's group bars ,the smaller individual ones like Cosmos,Crown Royale and the Madrid. Most of the upstairs bars are "clip joints" in which you can get into some serious trouble if your not careful.I've heard of people having to fight their way out rather than paying a very fat bill. So before you venture up make sure you know which bar is safe. Patpong looks very run down and dirty in daylight but when the sun goes down ,the music starts and the neon shines .It's one of those places most Westerners and Thais want to see.However alot are disgusted afterwards.Whatever you feel ,just remember most people who work there are not there by choice.Also do not asume that all Thailand is just Patpong .

  • You have to check out the ping pong shows in Pat Pong. What these women can do with their nether regions is mind-boggling and more than mildly impressive - shooting darts at balloons, blowing out candles, turning water into coca-cola, razor blades, and so on... Also, don't fall for the girls walking around insisting on massaging your feet or shoulders for free - they really don't take no for an answer and they will DEMAND money. Also, the guys walking through the market telling you can go into the shows "for a free demo", it's bull, as soon as you sit down, most will demand you pay 300-500 bht for sitting down and some won't let you leave until you pay. My advice - pay it, it's not worth the fight - you won't win. You only live once - check it out!

    Hmm... well, they are naked, so they're not so concerned with a dress code. I think it's safe to say anything goes.

    we went to patpong in 2004 with my co-training participants just to check what bangkok red district looks like..its just one alley with shopping stalls at the center...the bars and disco houses are located at the left and right of the alley...you can see women dancing inside...what saddens me about this place is that the clothes are more expensive (250baht and up) than the women dancers (60baht per show)..some of the women look not more than 20 years old...if you are going to patpong better to have a companinon since its not a place for young women

    dress conservatively or you might be mistaken for a prostitute or a woman dancer and might be accosted by male persons along the street

  • You can have a good time there if you stay on the ground floor. However, the places on the second floor are where the rip offs are. If your persuaded to go in one by one of the tuters, especialy watch out. The scenario almost always plays out the same. They claim no cover charge. Then when its time to go they tack a hefty one on to your bill and a big bouncer or two or more blocks the door and won't let you out until you pay up. I'm not saying every place up stairs is a rip off but too many are. If this should happen to you the general advice is: don't argue, pay up but try to get a receipt, next dial 1155 from any phone. That's the tourist police. They'll come and help you normaly. But why not avoid all that and stay on the ground floor where you can come and go freely.

    Patpong is easily Bangkok's most famous (infamous) and popular red light district. It earned its reputation during the American-Vietnam conflict, when American GIs made it a hub for their R&R. Today however, Patpong has become much more family friendly and is one of the city's biggest tourist attractions. You will still find the seedy bars, stripclubs and massage parlours, but the streets are now lined with a huge night market, known for selling some of the best (and worst) fake designer goods in the world. So whether your pleasure are girls or fake Rolexs, you will find it in Patpong. And if you have come just for the innocent fun, as my wife and I always do, be sure to avoid the over-zealous stripclub touts who try to lure you in with the prospect of seeing a ping-pong or dart show (I'm sure you can use your imagination to guess what these shows involve).

    This is just another bar on the infamous PATPONG strip with the usual GoGo girls doing their thing. What is unique about this place for me is that I was first there 22 YEARS ago and it's still going strong!!!!!

    After dinner, campy012, littlegirl0130 (Cathy), and I decided to check out Patpong, one of the infamous Red Light Districts of Bangkok. I'd always heard about it and was curious to know more about this seedier (and sad) aspect of Thai life. Suffice it to say, I did, via a little incident we had involving a tout, lady boys (or lack thereof), 300Bht sodas, and one straw (not used for the drinks). Sweet and wholesome Cathy, hope you weren't traumatized by this bizarre experience.

    I thought Patpong was as notorious as it was described over the internet. To my surprise, it's just a friendly night market with a touch of the RED LIGHTS or is it the other way around? :) Except for some persistent and aggressive sex-shows agents, the place is a safe place and haven for night BARGAINS - and yes including those of the oldest profession (I was told). :) Street vendors, however, start packing by midnight, probably due to some local ordinaces. If you intend to shop, go there early at around 9pm unless otherwise you want something else in which case the good time is around 11pm onwards.
