In Patpong, the famous street packed with gogo bars, there is a night-market as well. Buy your fake Rolex and Cartier-watches here. If you are are couple or a bunch of girlfriends and you are curious about the erotic/funny shows (you know, the ping-pong stuff), don't hesitate to visit one of the go go bars. The atmosphere in those clubs is very friendly and couples will be seated in the back, so the bargirls will leave you alone, if you want. They don't mind if you buy them a drink (in fact, they love it!) and Thai girls love to chat. If you are a male looking for some fun and company, tie yourself to the chair in your hotelroom and pick up that book you always wanted to read. There is so much nightlife in this city, it can easily drive you crazy. So keep your head cool. The best places to go to are Nana Plaza at the beginning of Sukhumvit Road (Soi 4, see the other tips on nightlife) or Soi Cowboy (Sukhumvit, between Soi 21 and 23). Soi Cowboy is a lively and friendly street, full of bars as well. To finish this chapter for the naughty boys amongst us, the shortest way to a little romance - excuse me guys, we don't wanna offend the innocent - is The Beer Garden in Soi 7 (daytime) or Thermae Coffeeshop at Soi 15 (nighttime). At around 7.30 pm the area around Patpong begins to come alive. The masses of market stalls start to set up for business and the infamous Go-Go bars liven up. Its lively and fun and is really busy.Here is where you can use your negotiating skills in bargaining for all sorts of goods from souvenirs to the ultimate fake watches and leather bags. You can just about buy anything here from shoes, clothes, CDs,etc etc. Everything is available here at the right price from Gucci to Prada and Lois Voutoun bags to Calvin Clein, Nike, Oakley and many many more. A good tip is to start at about 30/40% of their asking price and then meet them somewhere in the middle, the fun is what you can get it for. But remember not to haggle too much over little amounts as it is pennies to you. The people overwhelm you with kindness and smiles here even when they want to scam you. Be friendly and nice when bargaining for a price, and smile a lot to get a ‘good price’, but don’t start to low as this will only insult them and you will find that they won’t budge or drop to what you might think it is worth. You see everything in this busy bustling part of town, don’t be surprised to see elephants in the street that you can stroke and feed.At certain parts you will pass touts for the Go-Go bars with funny descriptive drawings of sexual positions that you never thought possible. The outside cafe/bars on the main drags are good to stop for a light refreshment and a bite to eat as you can watch the Patpong life go by and unfold before your very eyes as the night goes on.

Patpong is an entertainment district in Bangkok, Thailand, catering mainly, though not exclusively, to foreign tourists (farangs) and expatriates. While Patpong is internationally known as a red light district at the heart of Bangkok's sex industry, the city in fact has numerous red-light districts like Nana Plaza, Soi Cowboy, Thonglor, etc. A busy night market aimed at tourists is also located in Patpong. Patpong consists of two parallel side streets running between Silom Road and Surawong Road and one side street running from the opposite side of Surawong. Patpong is within walking distance of the SkyTrain's Sala Daeng Station, and Bangkok Metro's Si Lom Station. Patpong 1 is the main street with many bars of various kinds. Patpong 2 also has many similar bars. Next to these lies Soi Jaruwan, sometimes referred to as Patpong 3 but best known as Silom Soi 4 or Soi Kathoey (for gay men who loves ladyboys). Soi Thaniya has expensive bars with Thai hostesses that cater almost exclusively to Japanese men.Most Patpong go-go bars feature women dancing on a stage. The dancers (and even occasionally the serving staff) are generally available to customers willing to pay a bar fine to take them out of the bar; the fees for sexual services are negotiated separately. Some establishments advertising "massages" are in fact disguised brothels, and a few notorious "blowjob bars" offer oral sex in back rooms. Famous of which is LOLITA's BJ Bar which has a Branch near Nana Plaza. Several upstairs bars still feature (technically illegal) sex shows, with women performing various creative acts. Perhaps the most notorious of these features women performing exotic feats involving their genitalia and projectile table tennis balls. Some of these second-floor bars are run by scam artists who lure tourists with offers of low prices and later present a wildly inflated bill along with a threat of physical harm should the bill go unpaid. The Tourist Police, usually stationed at Patpong 1 and Silom Road, can help in these situations.

It can be quite intimidating after hearing all the stories, but you definitely have to make your way to visit Pat Pong...it's not just the sex industry area, but also an extensive night time market area... While it is always intriguing to see what goes on in one of the clubs, you have to be very wary of the type of club you go into. Many of the clubs will not charge you to get in the door, but once you are in, and if you are not for anything other than a quick look, some clubs will charge you to get out...can be a very tricky situation as well, as some will charge you a very extreme amount unless you partake in some of the back room activity...hmmmm...be wary!! Whilst we were there, we visited a club called Lipstix...this is a relatively safe club, whilst some of the performance may offend the faint hearted...for me it was definitely an eye opener, and for majority of the time I was there my eyes were firmly fixed on the bottom of my beer bottle!!!! Surawong street with the two small side streets Patpong 1 and Patpong 2 is the major "adult area". Here you find all these bars, pubs, nightclubs, massage parlors and of course girls that contribute to the - let's call it - "fame" of Bangkok. When I took this picture I had a Starbucks coffee shop behind me. I simply cannot avoid to print here what came to my mind when I saw a Starbucks at this place: "The taste for chosing the appropriate location for their shops corresponds with the taste of their coffee" ....
