Speed: For all the hip hop luva's out there!
Most hip hop lovers go to Speed cos the music is more hip and it will make you hop more :p A few other clubs that play hip hop music, they usually have the same list of songs and play them over and over. Let's say the dj's at Speed have a longer list of music and they try to add some flavor to it.
It's usually empty on the weekday nights but it's just packed with no air to breathe or space to move on Fri's and Sat's! It's a lot of fun.
The cocktails there are, well, not strong but it will get you thru the night. The price is average for the area.
People who go there, quite a few are regulars. It's a mixture of the locals, tourists, expats and many students also.
One thing, one bad thing, the place is kind of dirty. But when it's dark and you're having fun.. you wouldn't notice it.
Dress Code: Casual. Your own style... a few people dress in a hip hop style, baggy and big tee with a bandana and a cap.

The Balcony: Gay Hangout
The Balcony is a nice bar to chill out sepcially for gay folks. Sitting outdoors checking out people... It's located in Silom soi 4 which is next to Silom soi 2 AKA "the Gay Soi". So don't be surprised if you spot loads of gays around.
This place also offers good drinks with a reasonable price. Friendly gay staff. Nice service. There are always people at this place -- locals, tourists and expats.
It's fine for women and straight guys to sit and drink here as well. I sometimes go there with my gay friend.
PS For the locals, if you are a univ student, show the student card and you get 10% discount! Unfortunately, I dont have that priviledge anymore.
Dress Code: Casual.

DJ Station: BANGKOK GAY SCENE
The center of Bangkok's gay scene is without doubt Silom Soi 2, Soi 2 is widely considered to be 'more gay' than nearby Soi 4. The bars get hot and sweaty on weekends make it hard to move, let alone dance to the trendy underground sounds. Hot spots along this strip are the ever-popular DJ Station, a disco with drag shows and dancing guys.
Dress Code: Anything, as long as you feel comfortable dancing. Most guys are dancing topless anyway. Remember to bring along your Identity Card or Passport, there's police check at the entrance of Soi 2, age below 20 not allowed.
All spots are night spots: Bangkok never sleeps
i would not recommend any specific clubs, pubs or joints to hang out.
firstly, there are just too many to fit into one category of choice.
secondly, i would be making a promotional campaign?
bangkok does not sleep. almost every conrner is established with night clubs and nightly living places.
if you were in the sukhumvit area: be ready for somewhat posh and upper class of entertainment.
for silom area: mid range, upbeat and easy going
and if budget, flip flops and tank tops and shorts are you type of style...then head straight to kao san.
likewise with the sexuality ( i do not PROMOTE SEX BUSINESS, but if you must really know!!!).....there are all types and budget for that.
Dress Code: always dress nice...and best if you look and smell clean!
you'll be surprised that as hot and humid as it is here in thailand, the thais are very well groomed and cleanliness is a virtue of thai culture.
many foreigners come here and think that they are in venice beach, CA.....
thais smile, but frown with dispise in their hearts when foreign men walk around topless after nights of pounding liquor.
dress appropriate and you will see how differently you will be received with hospitality.
smart casual recommended for BKK.....lots of educated and proffesionals live here.
Expresso: Gay Hangout ll
Another tip dedicated for the Gays out there. This place is a must for you gay people cos it is FULL of nice looking ones! Im not sure about weekdays but its really packed on Fris and Sats. There is also a dragqueen show: 2 groups try to compete in dancing. Its fun to watch. Another good thing is that there is NO cover charge.
Dress Code: Casual - smart casual

Soi 4: Ratchada Soi 4
Ratchada Soi 4 is the place to go to if you want to see what young Thais do for a good time. The Soi is filled with bars that have live bands and most of them are packed by 11 pm .Bars here generally close around 1:30 am but there are exceptions. Why is everyone drinking Green Tea at 3 am?
The norm here is to come in groups and share a bottle of whiskey . A Johnny Walker Black is about 1200 baht with mixers,Red 700 baht and there are the cheaper ones too. This place is extreamly popular with the young crowd ,many looking like they just got out of diapers.
Every now and then THE BOYS IN BROWN will hit this area to make sure places close at 1 am and there are no under age drinkers .Don't be surprised if you have to get out of the taxis to be searched....so make sure you bring some ID.
SILOM- PATPONG: From Live Soccer To Live Sleaze
With its great selection of pubs, clubs and bars, Silom rarely disappoints the party crowd. Want to experience Silom's sleazier side? Head to world-renowned sex-district (and home of genital gymnastics) Patpong, where you'll find a procession of tightly packed go-go bars, touts flashing explicit menus, and promises of racy memories if only you follow them upstairs. Alongside a cramped but creatively stocked night market (think bootleg DVDs, tourist trinkets, T-shirts, fake watches), sit some of the city's most renowned and raucous streets, namely red-light district Patpong, Soi 2 and Soi

Bus Stop: Relatively quiet place on Sukhumvit Soi 4
Just a short walk up Soi 4 from the "delights" of Nana Plaza you will find on the left side of the road a bar called Bus Stop. The semi open bar area and garden is an escape from the blatent sex trade outside. Although it does have its share of bar girls, they are not very aggresive in their sales techniques and are quite happy just to chat (if bought a drink)
Dress Code: Very casual - just like most bars in Bangkok
Too many to name: Silom Soi 4
This place was always hopping but the clientele seemed to change. There is a mix of foreign and Thai but probably more foreign. The soi is full of people and lined with bars and telephone booth-sized dance places. We had a great time our first trips there in '98 particularly at the Tapas bar. Lots of house music. A friend and i went again a year later and sat in front of a bar and felt out of place unless we were holding hands - everyone around us was gay. Then a year later we were there again and the crowd seemed to be all international school students - very young and monied.
Dress Code: Anything you want. The tigher the better.

Various places - Silom Road...
Various places - Silom Road area
There are many good dance clubs in the Silom Road area, generally a couple of blocks away from the Patpong strip. I suggest you ask your hotel, as it seems to change a fair bit. But the drinks are cheap and some of these places really heave until the morning (about 4am).
Dress Code: Anything or barely nothing!
If you are not looking for a girly bar, but you are looking for a relaxed place to have a drink, I suggest you head for some of the Irish Pubs down in the Silom Road area. They are nice and casual, as with any Irish pub in the world, and they are a good starting point to ask some locals for more pubs in the area.

Silom - Soi 2, Soi 2/1, and Soi 4: Gay Bars & Discos
For gay travellers, the easiest gay places to find are in in Silom Road. Each small side alley is called a "Soi".
Under the Sala Daeng Skytrain station, on the same side of the road as Robinson Department Store, walk down a few meters and you'll come to Soi 2 - its small - don't miss it! This soi is almost exclusively gay, with the very popular DJ Station disco, JJ Park bar with live entertainment, and several other gay bars and cafes.
Walking a little further down Silom, you come to another very small alleyway, Soi 2/1. This Soi houses @Richards Pub (open from 6pm), GOD Disco (opens at 9pm but not busy until after 12), Andy's Men (massage), and Hamilton's Music Bar.
Taking a walk a little further down, you come to Soi 4; this is a bigger and more obvious land, lined with bars on both sides. Not all the bars are gay, but the atmosphere means it doesn't matter. Luminous has drag shows late in the evening, The Balcony is popular for its big terraces, Telephone is the oldest surviving gay bar in Bangkok, Cafe 4 is owned by the same guys who own the Art at Play Gallery on the left; above Balcony is the Bearbie club. Near the end of the soi on the right is Sphinx pub and restaurant, with Pharoah's Karaoke bar upstairs.
Dress Code: In the discos, you can dance shirtless, but in the other bars you are expected tobe reasonable dressed.

Big Mango Bar: Chill Out in Sukhumvit Soi 4
The Big Mango Bar has been described by visitors as a 'treasure' or 'hidden discovery'.
It may be on the infamous Sukhumvit Soi 4 by a postal address BUT it is located in a relaxed yet warm small Soi opposite the Rajah Hotel complex and 7/11 store. That makes the bar a little harder to find, yet more of a personal eating and drinking spot.
Big Mango can be whatever you want it to be, a pre event venue before you join the hard core enviroment of Nana Plaza or your local pub/bar with free pool, great food and drink deals, free wifi/internet, live sport and a smoking balcony all located on two large floors.
The bar is open 7 days a week from 4pm til late (some sporting events that start outside of opening hours mean the bar opens earlier or later).
