This will be my Vertigo Restaurant and MoonBar Nightlife tips. I will have a separate restaurant tips for it.
The Vertigo Restaurant and Moon Bar is the most famous Bangkok institution for a romantic and altitude busting dining and cocktails. Baiyoke Sky tower maybe the tallest building in Thailand by the Views around the Vertigo Restaurant and Moon Bar of the Banyan Tree Hotel is among the best in the world! The Vertigo Restaurant and Moon Bar is situated at the 61st floor of the Banyan Tree Hotel in Sathorn Road and is shaped like a sail less cruising ship on top of a building. the vertigo restaurant is at the center of this ship like structure and the moon bar is on the both edges. They have the same set of chairs and tables and wait staff but the difference is that when you are going to have cocktails at the moon bar, no reservations are needed, while dining at the middle Vertigo Restaurant means having dinner reservations beforehand. The prices of the restaurant meals here is very expensive as they have price fix specials of a 5 course set meal at 100 US dollars per person without drinks included. The Moon Bar again does not need reservations and there is no entrance fee (but no smoking too!, the allowed smoking area will be at the 52snd floor at the Latitude Lounge and Bar). Locally Brewed Beers like Singha or Chang or San Miguel or Heineken or Leo Beer will cost 250 baht per bottle and imported beers like Tiger, Asahi, Budweiser or Stella Artois at 320 baht per bottle. Cocktails like their specials the Vertigo Sunset, at 350 baht a glass and other cocktails at also 350 baht per glass like the thai sabai, singapore sling, mai tai, zombie, tequila sunrise, tom collins and more.
Opens: 5:00 pm to 1:00 am everyday. (moon bar)
6:00 pm to 11:00 pm everday (vertigo restaurant)
Dress Code: according to their website:
At the request of the majority of our patrons, our Vertigo Restaurant & Moon Bar observe a Smart Casual Dress Code.
No flip-flops, no athletic apparel, no torn clothing and no backpacks.
Long trousers, closed shoes and no sleeveless tops for Gentlemen. For Ladies, no denim shorts.
The bar and restaurant are closed if there are persistent strong rains and winds, otherwise when there is a slight drizzle, then prepare you umbrellas!
656 feet above the ground on top of the Banyon Tree Hotel is Vertigo, the highest - or so the advertising has it - al fresco bar in the world.
The service is impeccable, the cocktails wonderful and the view ? though muddied a little by the Bangkok smog - amazing, just see how close those aeroplanes are to you! Cocktails will set you back about 310 baht each (4.32sterling) plus service and tax. The Moonshine Romance, which comes in an icily steaming glass bowl with a rose on the side, is camp and fantastic.
Be warned, the bar is not for the faint hearted. 656ft in the open air is high and we spent a good portion of the time - at least until the cocktails reached our blood stream - not standing up and discreetly hanging on to the side of our chairs.
Dress Code: Dress code is smart/casual so no shorts
We went to the bar Vertigo located on top of the Banyan tree building. This is one of the tallest buildings in Bangkok and we were sitting out in the open. And hence we got a really GREAT view of Bangkok by night :-)
Dress Code: They didn't like that we wore shorts there
