Their web site and the guide books talk about bus 511 and the Southern Bus station. I thought you had to go to the southern bus station to catch this bus. Not so. It starts and ends there. Not sure of the exact route but eventually it arrives on Ploen Chit Road and down Sukhumvit Road near the Marriott. You have to look for the 511 bus on the bus signs. One warning, not sure if every bus 511 goes down this route. On my return, the 511 bus I got on did not come this route but does pass about a mile away. There seems to be a large 511 bus and small one. Think only the larger goes this route.
If you catch it going to Muang Boran on this route no problem. Coming back, try to take the same model of bus you arrived on.

The 320 acres Ancient City, which has a shape corresponding to the map of Thailand, is like an open door to the cultural heritage of Siam. Its visitors are able to see the continuity of the history, arts, cultures, religions, thoughts, as well as the believes of Thai talents. It is a reflection of Thai fundamentals and the varieties of the cultures found in Thai territories.

The ground breaking was performed in 1963 and its grand opening was held on 11th February 1972. The current number of monuments, as of 2nd June 2004, is 116 with more to come in the future. The admission rate is now 375 Baht, which include bicycle rental (due to the large area of the theme park like museum) and a tram ride with an English speaking guide.

All monuments and replicas have been painstakingly recreated, and the amount of effort that has been put into recreating the exact intricate details of the original structures are really nothing short of amazing.

Personally, I think a visit to Thailand should not be just about shopping or "alternative activities", but one should pay attention to the wonders and beauty of their culture as well. Besides visiting the usual Palaces, Wats, and Museums, both Muang Boran and Ayuthaya (the real ancient city) are definitely worth a visit.

If anything, a visit to Muang Boran, which is about 40km away from Bangkok, provides for an interesting relief from the very crowded streets off Bangkok.
