It's possible to visit Pattaya just for a daytrip. Take an aircondioned bus in the morning from Bangkok and come back in the evening. The bus trip takes approximately 2 and half hours. There's not much to see when driving from Bangkok to Pattaya so it's good time to rest your feet and sleep.

Pattaya is well-known for its sex tourism and you can notice sex tourism everywhere there. I was amazed how many western middle-aged or over men were there apparently to find a companion or just to have fun.

Pattaya is a nice beach town. It is a 2 hour bus ride South of Bangkok. Catch BTS Skytrain to Ekamai station. Then 3-4 minute walk to Eastern Bus Station. The 2 hour bus ride was $2.50.

Pretty cool to see the beach and people hanging out and sipping on drinks.

"Walking Street" is the happening street. This street has lots of clubs and bars. Many girls trying to lure you to sit down and have a drink at thier bar.

Hotels are really cheap. We stayed at the Sunshine Garden Hotel for $15/night which included a breakfast buffet. This hotel was a 10 minute taxi ride to Walking Street. Clean and air conditioned. I had a nice view of the well landscaped pool area from my balcony.

    Koh Laan
    Koh = Island
Laan or Larn = Million or Hairless or Bald
Koh Laan often call Coral Island situated 7.5 Kms from Pattaya Beach.
The island ist famous for their white sandy beaches and plentyful corals.
There are daily many ferries for only THB 20.- with the journey time arond 45 min.,
from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM to Koh Laan, and returning to Pattaya from 6:30 AM to 6:00 PM.
To reach Koh Laan with speedboat will take only 15 minutes.
Koh Laan's 3 famous beaches are Haad Tha Waen (north),
Haad Samae Sarn or Haad Samae (south west), and Haad Laem Thien (south west).
The transport with small bus from pier at Koh Laan to Haad (beach)
    will cost about THB 50.-/trip/pers.
Most of the transport belong to the beach reastaurant
so you will get the beach-chair at Haad Samae for 10 THB,
if you came with the bus no.1, no. 26.
The beautiful sunset from Koh Laan you can see during your departure.
There are also rooms and resorts and tent for rent at the island.
Koh Laan is the larges Pattaya's Archipelago, 45 minutes offshore by ferryboat
or 15 minutes by speed boat.
Major attractions are viewing coral reefs from glass-bottomed boats, snorkeling,
    scuba diving, parasailing, water-skiing, jet-skiing and wind-surfing.
There are a lots of restaurants along the beaches. Neightbouring islands like
Koh Krok, Koh Sark and Koh Phai are easy to reach by hired-boat for appr.
THB 1,000 to 5,000 depending on season and size of the boat from Koh Laan.
    See more Pictures
in my Baan Phattaya's (Pattaya) Traveloques.

Unfortunately, Thailand, the land of smiles, has still a lot to do to help the poor people.

This is my new brainchild idea after writing about Father Brennan and his orphanage.

Many of you have written me about him and many went to see him and his team (and I feel very happy about it ! Thousand of thanks to you !).

For those who won't go to Pattaya but want to give their free time (you don't need to dip into your pocket) while in Thailand, I found some programs and have compiled them thereunder.

If you have a good heart, you may be of great help in this part of the world !

Community Service : The Thai Volunteer Service Foundation encourages young people to volunteer their time and energy to help the poor in rural communities across the country.

    Contact Kannika KUANKAJORN, Thai Volunteer Service Foundation, 409 Soi Rohitsuk, Pracharaj-bumpen Road, Huay Khwang, Bangkok 10320. Tel 02 691 04 37-8. Fax 02 691 04 39.

Orphans : The ever-increasing number of abandoned infants is putting heavy pressure on the Phyathai Babies'Home. While donations are always welcome, volunteers could substantially ease the staff's work load by giving a little help to toddlers as they wait for a foster home.

    Contact Nonthinee PETPAISIT, 264/1 Rama VI Road, Ratchathewi, Bangkok 10400. Tel 02 245 56 35 Fax 02 246 40 92

Orphans : The crowded Pakkred Babies Home is desperately in need of volunteers, even for one to two days a week, to help take care of the babies.

    Contact Wilma RATANARUKA. Tel. 02 300 21 83. Fax 02 300 21 84.

Children : The Child Protection Foundation has launched a public appeal for funds to build a rural retreat where physically and sexually abused children can be nursed back to health.

    Contact Montri SINTAWICHAI, 80/1 Lat Phrao Soi 106, Bang Kapi, Bangtonglang, Bangkok 10310. Tel 02 538 62 27 41.
