Luggage and bags: You have to buy a map in Bangkok. You find in the airport some free maps, the same in the hotels. Also in the streets of Bangkok have maps to see where you are.

Second photo: Chao Praya Map. In every Chao Praya river pier you find and a map with all the piers.

Luggage and bags: If you need extra luggage for your trip home. You can find them very inexpensive here.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: You will probably only need lightweight cotton clothing. You should leave your shorts in your suitcase until you get to the beach. Bring a wrap for cool restaurants and a water resistant jacket if you come in the rainy season. Don't forget to bring comfy walking shoes.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: You can find most anything that you will need in Bangkok, if you know where to look.

Miscellaneous: Bangkok has three seasons: the cool season, hot season, and rainy season. Temperatures rarely drop below 25° C (70° F). To most of us tourists it seems quite warm and humid .
They do love their air conditioners though so bring a wrap.

Miscellaneous: I didn't bother with a guidebook but just used the Nancy Chandler map. You could probably buy one in Bangkok but rather than spend time hunting it down buy it beforehand and start using it right away. The walk through Chinatown is especially interesting and as for the rest Don't Worry because Bangkok is a marvellous big city with fabulous supermarkets and no matter what you've forgotten you'll find it here.
