If you've never had a chance to go to an exclusive Tokyo sushi bar, then Wasabi is the next best thing if you happen to be in Bangkok. Their fish is flown in twice a week from Japan's famous Tsikiji Market, and the freshness shows. Wasabi's traditional Japanese sushi and sashimi are simply outstanding. They also do fusion dishes. The savoury hot foie gras mango roll is to die for, and meat lovers should not miss the variety of Kobe beef rolls – rolled with pan fried foie gras, broiled Atlantic lobster tail or jumbo shrimp tempura. A rare selection of premium Hakkaisan sakes is also offered. It is no wonder that Wasabi's old restaurant in Bali was ranked by Conde Nast Traveller as one of the 75 best new restaurants in the world. Ultimately, this place is not simply for sushi lovers but for anyone who enjoys fine cuisine.
The Isan roll has a fantastic locally-inspired taste. Isan is the Northeast region of Thailand, with cuisine noted for its spiciness and use of lemongrass. In the Wasabi Isan roll, they wonderfully combine deep fried lemongrass with a spicy beef, and top it with a Thai hot sauce that just makes your mouth wake up and take notice of every unique flavor. It sits right next to a klong (canal). You have to descend a flight of dark stairs from a klong bridge to get down there. It is pretty much open to the outside and to splashing from the dirty klong water. It is not very clean. tables and chairs are your basic cheap plastic with plastic stools. The place is always full of Thais and it is boisterous. The mostly Thai music is OK and not that loud (refreshing, and there are NO TVs!). It is a combination of music, crowd, scummy surroundings, good food, and open concept eating that i think keeps people coming back. A real Thai restaurant experience. Mostly thais and a few seasoned expats patronize the place. Elephants sometimes walk thru with their mahouts. After 12 at night, people thin out and the cockroaches start making the rounds, and maybe a few rats will get brave too. I think it is only open at night but not Sundays. If you get there before 7 pm, you will see and hear and maybe feel the spray from passing public transport canal boats. Keep your mouth closed.
All the food, which is all Thai, is great, and for some reason the beer always tastes so good here - could be the atmosphere or the lack of A/C. ATTENTION!! Update 02/2003 Sadly this marvellous establishment has changed hands. Imagine my disappointment when i saw an empty restaurant (save my friends at one table) as i descended the stairs! The music has also changed to sappy crap. I told the new owner what i missed, so i hope that change to its old true self will occur, but i won't hold my breath. Whole Earth has great food at prices that are a little more than your average Thai restaurant but still a bargain at international standards - very reasonably priced for most foreigners outside of the Khao San crawlers. A great selection of food, lots of curries and Thai food in a great setting, esp the location off Sukhumvit Road where you can enjoy your meal in the garden. At Soi Lang Suwan you have the option of sitting at tables or on pillows on the floor around a low table. Last time i was there, there was no outdoor section.
Take your pick - it is all very good. This comfortable spot hosts mostly backpackers since it is in the heart of the backpacking district. It has comfortable seating and a great mix of american food and thai food. I had a sandwhich which I fully enjoyed and the fried cheese wontons which I would not recommend but I enjoyed the people watching. This restaurant also doubles as a guesthouse but disturbingly has a sign claiming "No Thais". I was unsure what this was all about and I did not stay here but it seemed crowded with young tourists.

Windmill restauarant on Silom Rd is very good. They have a huge menu offering alot of different Thai dishes. The prices are very good and the atmosphere and service is great. The location is a stones throw away from Patpong.
I got green beans, rice, and a shrimp paste. It was soooo good but so hot. I have never had anything as spicy as this dish. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Silom Road

A small restaurant with delicious Indian food. Thai food is also available. We tried both and enjoyed them all. The staff are so friendly, we feel most welcomed. The lack of patrons made it possible for us to be pampered. They are halal food and so we have no problem on that score.
For Thai food it is the Tom Yam Kung. It is prawn tom yam which is very hot and great to to our taste. For Indian food it is garlic naan with bendhi masalla and other condiments. Oh how I loved the diners I had in the restaurant of the German Goethe Institut, officially called Ratsstube. It is like eating in a Bavarian cuckoo clock-museum! Should I see more, besides from the fact that you can eat very well at a very reasonable price. It can be a little enterprise to find this restaurant, unless you happen to stay in the area, but would it be an adventure if it was located on Sukhumvit Road? I don’t think so! But believe me, the trip is worthwile, allthough I do advise you to give them a ring, so you are sure what times they are open. If I remember correctly they open up a seven in the evening. As the name suggests, it's all about noodles. In Bangkok, the variety is out of this world ranging from dry noodles to the ones with curry/gravy. Cosy ambience.
