This is the buffet restaurant of the Bangkok Shangrila Hotel that supposedly was voted as the second best buffet in 2006. My foot. The service was clumsy at best and just plain rude in some cases. Between the older lady at the chicken rice station yelling "WHAT DO YOU WANT?!!" or "NO MORE!!!" and the man at the omelette station yelling "YES?!!" and cursing in Thai because a customer corrected his mistake, I was thoroughly amused. This IS SUPPOSEDLY a 5-star hotel and a SHANG to boot. You'd be better off at the food court of Maboonkong or Suan Lum the night market where BOTH the food and the service will be better.
If you do go, practise saying this to the wait staff as you'll need it -- "Am I the only one that noticed that my coffee cup is empty?"
Great place to go for a so, so relaxing lunch. Sit outside on the riverside terrace, enjoy your food, and watch the world go by on the river.
Excellent buffet with food from different countries, or you can order a la carte.
Favorite Dish: Sad to say, their cheeseburgers!
After several days of enforced rice and noodles whilst up in the north east (where European food used to be very hard to find) I'd be drooling over the thought of a good steak or burger. This place never let me down.
Most things on the buffet table were superb.
We took a boat across to the other side of the river. There we walked a short distance to the Shangri-la hotel. The hotel lobby was elaboratly furnished. We were in seach of their buffet. NEXT2 Café & Terrace provides scenic river views where guests choose among six different food stations and international selections are cooked to order. There were several vegetraian
items to choose from on the buffet.
While we ate outside with the view of the river there is also an "inside", which is nicely decorated and ... air conditioned -- for those moments when the Bangkok heat and humidity get to you!
This is the red curry [delicious] from the Next2 Cafe at Shangri-la Hotel. The presentation made it difficult to break the beauty -- but the taste was worth it!!
The seafood salad was fresh, well flavored and, as you can see, well-presented. No complaints from here!
You can eat inside or out. This is the terrace overlooking the Chao Praya River.
Favorite Dish: See the next tips for what we ate:)
