Shabu Shi by Oishi: Shabu Shabu and Hotpot Buffet by Oishi (2)

by machomikemd Written Oct 30, 2013

part two of my shabu shi tips with more pictures inside.

The Oishi Group is the number one local Thai Japanese restaurant company and they have assorted japanese restaurants and concepts, ranging from Oishi Japanese Buffet, Oishi Ramen House, Kazukutei Soba and Udon Noodle restaurants, Nikuya Japanese Yakitori Barbecue Restaurant and their most popular restaurant concept, the Shabu Shi, which we tried and this Shabu and Hotpot and Sushi Type of buffet is the most popular of them all, with 64 branches across thailand. the branch we tried is at the 3rd floor of MBK, just across the Au Bon Pain Cafe.

Shabu Shi Restaurant is a mix of two Japanese cuisine elements, sushi and shabu shabu (hot pot), and this concept is a hit among locals and foreigners alike as the restaruants are seen from transparent glass from the outside and they have a revolving type of conveyor belt (kaiten) that tranports assorted small plates of assorted ingredients for the hot pot, ranging from meat, fish, clams, komoboko, veggies, noodles, dumplings and more around the tables of the diners (see my videos here for a more visual understanding). they also have a separate buffet table for the sushi and sashimi and rice and sauces and the refillable drinks.

the lines here are long and they give you number stubs as you wait for yout turn.

price of the buffet is 319 baht and the buffet is limited for just 1 hour and 15 minutes per person, and if you exceed the allotted time, then the price of the buffet is doubled to 638 baht!

opens: 10:00 am to 10:00 pm everyday

Favorite Dish: everything! you are seated in a table with a hot pot in the middle, divided into two parts so that you can flavor the basic hot pot soup stock to whatever you like from the condiments area and you can cook in the hot pot the various meats, seafood, veggies, dumplings rotating on the revolving tray beside your table and cook them accordingly.

you can also get assorted sushi, sashimi and other non hot pot meals at the separate buffet tables and drinks and aslo dessert.

they accept no reservations, so better come early as the line is really long!

    Oishi: Great Japanese Buffet

by toppsmark Written Jul 2, 2009

This is a very good Japanese buffet with sushi and all kinds of prepared dishes. You can also have a dish stir fried by picking your vegetables and meat and sauce and giving it to the chefs. They also have dim sum and soups and a lot of stuff. The atmosphere is fun and friendly. Lots of families and students and businessmen. I've eaten here a bunch of times and always come away happy and full.

Favorite Dish: Make your own stir fry
