This huge place (over 1500 seats) is both a market and a restaurant where you can go to the counter, look at the live seafood and choose the one you like. Tell the chef how you want it prepared and have it ready in a while...

Favorite Dish: Lobster, prawns, King Crabs...

The slogan of Seafood Market is "If it swims we have it" and certainly the array of fresh fish, shellfish, lobsters, crabs and other seafood seems to bear this out.

It is more like a large food court that a restaurant, seating I would imagine into the hundreds. your A waiter helps you choose what you want - not just seafood but vegetables and other accompaniments - from what looks like a huge fresh fish/deli counter at a supermarket. Fun in itself as you try and decide whether you want another huge shrimp or that extra bit of cuttlefish. If you are unsure the waiter is there to advise and, later, advice will also come on how best to have the food cooked and served such as in a in a Thai Curry Sauce, a soup, deep fried, boiled etc..

The standard of cooking is excellent and the service speedy. Seeing your piece of fish return having been tuned into a delicious chilli based curry is like the food equivalent of "Stars in Their Eyes".

The cost is based on what you choose, its weight and the way it is cooked so you can either choose carefully and keep the price down or - especially if you go for the lobster - splash out and rack the price up. I would imagine a good average would be 30.00-40.00 sterling for two including drinks and a good amount of food. This is certainly not going to be the cheapest meal you can have in Bangkok but it will probably be one of the most memorable.

Favorite Dish: We had lobster, cuttlefish, huge shrimps, white fish and so much more I can't remember. It was all wonderful!

Seafood Market and Restaurant: If it swims, they have it

Great variety of seafood and wine.

A bit touristy, but well worth it. Outside the restaurant it looks like 100 iron chefs have decided to have a competition. Inside it looks like an oversized foodcourt in a super market.

Grab a shopping cart, fill it up with pomfret, huge-jumbo (U 2-3) freshwater prawns, lobster, crabs, clams, etc and pay at the register.

Bring it to your table and let the waiters help you decide what the best way to cook it is.

Favorite Dish: I would highly recommend the crabs, lobster thermidor (better than in France), grilled freshwater prawns and pomfret fried with garlic.

Really fresh sea food! you can choose your own fish on a huge variety ( prawns , lobster, snapper , oysters ecc ecc ) and the way to cook it express for you.
there is also a good sushi maker with very nice tempura and shushi and sashimi!
you pay for the fish and for the cooking separately depending how you want it to be cooked.

Favorite Dish: rock lobster in oyster sauce
    fried prawns
    crab in chinese sauce

Seafood Market and Restaurant: Seafood Delight!

The Seafood Market and Restaurant is a large destination spot in Bangkok. The main dining room seats 1500 people. There are private dinign rooms upstairs.

I was lucky enough to enjoy this restaurant with my Thai friends. We were escorted upstairs to our private dining room, and then began the adventure of selecting our seafood from the display tanks. There were fish of all types, and most were still swimming! After we made our selections, my Thai friend directed how each entree should be prepared.

After 10 minutes or so, the dishes began arriving to our table, where we ate family style, in the Thai tradition. There were 7 of us eating, and we had 7 servers. The service was incredible. The dishes ranged from traditional Tom Yun Kung Soup, to Tiger Prawns in Butter (DELICIOUS!), whitefish, and scallops. Everyhting was immaculately prepared. It was an unforgettable meal!

Favorite Dish: The Tiger Prawns were so delicious. they had a delicate flavor, and melted in your mouth.

    I liked their sign

I was was curious about this place when I saw the sign and I eventually went and checked it out. A unique experience, that's for sure.

Basically you walk in and you are led to a table. From there, you place your drinks order and then you are assigned a 'personal shopper', with whom you wander around and select your dinner from all the fish in the deli at the back of the restaurant. I got a bit carried away here but the choice was amazing. I think I ended up getting about twenty oysters, not to mention prawns and lobster. Anyway, once you have picked out your seafood, you pay for it at the cash register and then it's back to the table, where the chef marches out and asks you how you would like each dish prepared.

Favorite Dish: The food was great and if I could recommend anything, it would have to be the tiger prawns in chilli sauce. This restaurant is a bit expensive for Bangkok (if you have a big appetite) but it's the kind of thing you should do once.

Excellent ambience and great food with excellent service. Though the price is a bit on the higher end, it is a worthwhile experience in this large well maintained restaurant which is said to be the largest seafood restaurant in the world. You can Pick your own live seafood and decide upon the way it should be cooked. The host lady accompanying you, will readily guide you. Also interesting to watch an army of cooks preparing the different recipies in great style.

Favorite Dish: The grilled king lobster and chilli crabs.

Maybe not unique, but close to it. Like a supermarket for fish eating. You choose your food from what's on display at the counters, tell them how you want it cooked, and then go away and wait.

Its always good, and always fresh, and you always order too much!

    Highly recommended.

Favorite Dish: Anything and everything - I love my seafood!

Seafood Market and Restaurant: Soi 24 Seafood. A great experience.

    by enjoyable_bangkok Written Jun 20, 2006

Soi 24 seafood is really impressive, with a huge selection of seafood. All seafood is alive and you carry a cart to shop for the seafood you like. The seafood range in the resturant is really a lot. Then you can choose the cooking style. The resturant is very popular with tourists. One thing is that the restaurant is quite expensive. A big prawn cost about 600baht and a big crab cost 1200baht. The cooking fee came up to 800 baht. Overall, we spent about 4000baht in the restaurant. Expensive, but to tell you the truth, it is the best meal I ever eaten. Qin Qin and I have very good memory about this place.

Favorite Dish: The fish. It is very nice. Very fresh.

If it swims it will be on yr plate

It is huge ,i counted almost 400 tables ,i think.Good and attentive services.First you go to the supermarket counter running the length of the restaurant to select your purchases from seafood, vegetables, deserts right down to fruits& wines/liquor.You can choose to have a guided escort or do it yrself with a suppermarket trolley.I remember they have a restaurant in Spore in the nineties, but it was closed subsequently
After paying for the purchases ,u cart your food to your table and the captain will check how u want yr seafood cooked..grill,fried steam, curried or tom yam. There is a service charge for the cooking.I noticed that they also charge for cutting the fruits.....not much 10Baht ...though i feel this should be waived and treated as a customer service.
Due to the enormous scale of the restaurant ,i supposed the food could not be fresher.

Favorite Dish: The curry crab is simply aromatic and delicious. The tom yam soup cooked with giant fresh water prawns (abt 8 inches to a foot in length) as the roe fused with the soup to give it a rich texture. The giant prawns are superb BBQ,out of this world ,however the price is the same as the Lobsters

    The famous Lobster Signboard
    4 more images

It an unique place where you can buy the seafood from the "market" and pay for it first and the customer service personnels will trolley it to your table and you can asked for it to be cooked in many different ways and that's a separate charge.

On display, however, aren't a great variety of different types of seafood. Some of the more popular ones are displayed for sale in the "market". Didn't tried to order seafood dishes that weren't in the menu or displayed in the market though.

Getting there was not a problem (if by taxi or tuk-tuk) as the restaurant has a signboard hanging across the Sukhumvit Soi 24 road. Only thing, make sure the driver takes you to the restaurant instead of bringing you to another location and passing it off as it.

Fisherman seafood: Fisherman seafood and China town Bangkok

I can suggest a couple other options for dinner. Check out located near the river so it's not far away from the sunset cruise. Not a bad place, good food and good prices, I think within your budget. Also I may suggest that you check out China Town located again, close to the river, only a few blocks away on Yaowarat rd. Lots of Chinese restaurants with a wide variety of food choices and they would definitly be within your budget range and have great food. You may have to scout a bit during the conference and set it up but it would be easy and most establishments would be more than willing to accomodate you and almost any number of people. I would suggest going there at night to scout. Then you can see which restaurants and frequented by the locals and busiest. I doubt there are any web sites to contact ahead of time. Also, depending on where you are staying, they may be able to help you with suggestions in China Town or any other place.
    Good luck!
