Street Food: street food: authentic thai
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • to experience authentic thai food, eat at diners located at the streets..thai people are fond of eating out thus by dinner time there are lots of people eating at side streets...meal costs 35-50 baht; better to choose a street diner with english translation in menus so you can choose your food better

try pad thai, thai soup or rice with shrimp the best!

    Street Food: Street Vendors
  • Tip Rating:
  • You'll see street vendors all over the place. Many foreigners are afraid to buy food from these. I think it's fine to eat, just make sure it's cooked well. Its cheap. Its yummy. Its real local.

Street Food: Cheapest way to eat
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Near everywhere you go you will find street vendors cooking up meats. Looks quite nice but truthfully you'll not eat it very often. The meats they normally sell would be sausages (frankfurt type), fish balls, pork balls, squid or octopus, and some others. They are heated over a small BBQ type cart and then chopped up and put in a bag. You are then offered the sauces mainly fish sauce and chilli sauce. Take your pick. You use a pointed stick to eat it...

Other types of street food would be iced coffees, teas, drinks etc. fresh fruits, and BUGS (never tried)

Street Food: Try everything that looks interesting to you
  • Tip Rating:

  • What I found to be so wondeful about dining out in Bangkok is that you could get the most wondeful dishes and eat along side regular Thai and enjoy the city's atmosphere right on the street stalls. Instead of having the hotel breakfast, I would wonder out to the side streets and grab some hot soup, pineapple and coffee, prepared right on the corner. The cost for all would be about a $1 - $1.50 for a meal and it was tasty, clean and fun to eat. Get to learn how enjoy everything from a plastic bag. You can buy a soda and they pour it into a clear plastic bag with a straw. Likewise, in the evenings, it is common for people to passby the grill squid sellers, chicken curry cooks and fruit juice squeezers and watch as everyone bought their take home dinners.

My favorite street food would have to be the fishball and pork noodle soup with spicy pepper and crispy onions. Delicious and made to order, fresh.

If your stomach is feeling up to it, try some delicious fresh pad thai, served up right on the street. Wash it down with a cold Singha beer.

Street Food: Fried Grasshopper or beetles anyone?
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • If you're really feeling adventurous, you could try some north-eastern specialities like fried grasshoppers, beetles, ants eggs fried with garlic, and various grubs. Tastes vary but the general opinion is that they taste like chicken, while the grubs have the consistency of prawn crackers - taste for yourself and give us your comments.

The grasshopper not bad but the beetles taste wierd!! :-P

  • Would you dare to eat from a street vendor? If yes, you could find satay stalls on the street and even at Chatuchak. I paid 5THB per stick. Simply delicious.
