Jim Thompson's House Restaurant: If you visit the House at lunchtime, don't doubt
I have always liked to dine at beautiful ambiences, and if this beauty come from nature or from a garden, much better. You can have lunch at Jim Thompsons, after doing the tour, and, although it is a little more expensive than many other places in Bangkok (not expensive for Western standards), it is a delightful place. You can sit beside a pond, it is nice and relaxing indeed. Moreover, food is quite good, they serve a impressing pad thai. You can also order a wide range of sandwiches, which my companions did. A lunch for 6 people, with large Shingas and dessert cost 2300 bahts.
Siempre me ha gustado comer en sitios hermosos, y si esa belleza proviene de la naturaleza o de un jardin, mucho mejor. Puedes comer a mediodia en la casa de Jim Thompson, despues de hacer el tour, y aunque es un poco mas caro que muchos otros sitios en Bangkok (no es caro de acuerdo a standards occidentales), es un sitio maravilloso. Puedes sentarte al lado del estanque, es verdaderamente agradable y relajante. Ademas, la comida es bastante buena, sirven un pad thai impresionate. Tambien puede pedir una variedad de sandwiches, que fue lo que hicieron mis companheros. Un almuerzo para 6 personas, con Shingas grandes y postre costo 2300 bahts
Favorite Dish: Apart from pad thai, banana and chocolate cake proved to be amazingly tasty.

Thompson Restaurant: Jim Thompson's House
A great place to eat if you are heading around the main sights is the Thompson Restaurant. It's attached to Jim Thompson's House, with a beautiful and serene spot on the veranda. You can eat great food while away from the noise of the streets outside, soothed by the bubbling waters of the pond and serenaded by the occasional singer. The food is all local, as is the ambiance, and is some of the best Thai food you'll find on the beaten tourist trail.

For starters we ordered crab cakes with mango sauce, the yam som oo or pomelo salad and the som tam which is a spicy papaya salad with shrimp. Don't let the refreshing looks of the som tam fool you, it's loaded with chilies! A yam is a hot and tangy salad that usually involves the flavors of lime, chili, fresh herbs and a choice of seafood, meat, roast vegetables or noodles. Lemongrass, shallots and kaffir lime leaves may also come into play. If appetizers are the front-act to the main show and what we just had was any indication of the feast we were about indulge in, boy were we in for a wild and heady culinary ride!
Next up of course was the tom yam kung which is a soup-style yam. The intoxicating aroma of kaffir lime and lemongrass that rose from the bowl was enough to send my mind reeling. We ladled the soup into our individual bowls and we slurped. We didn't care that we were teary-eyed and sniffling - some even suppressing a cough or two-, with prickles of sweat forming at our temples, we couldn't get enough of it! It was that good. It was an intense and unforgiving soup, but oh so rewarding!
The phat thai served to us at Jim Thompson's came ensconced in a thin egg blanket. Hidden underneath was a melange of thin rice noodles stirfried with shrimp, beansprouts, green onions, tofu, egg, and crushed peanuts. In my experience, phàt thais are hit or miss. I don't know what makes it pretty easy to screw up what seems like such a simple dish, but this one was definitely a big hit!
As if the tom yam kung wasn't enough, we had to have the Green Curry with Eggplant and Chicken or kaeng khiaw-waan. Now, woah! Hot doesn't even begin to describe this dish. You know how you can't pull yourself away from a car wreck? Yup, something like that. All it took was more rice and alternating bites of the sweet and tangy pomelo salad. I wondered briefly if I would ever regain full use of my tongue. But the temporary discomfort is really such a small price to pay for such an ambrosial dish, don't you think?
Favorite Dish: Ahhh, the pièce de résistance. These could possibly be the two most delicious mango desserts this side of the hemisphere. They were the perfect sweet ending, kind of like a soft, velvety cushion for our tongues and palates. Refreshing and so so comforting. Khao niaw ma-muang , that's the tongue-twisting name for what is fresh ripe mangoes served with sticky rice sweetened in coconut milk. Ma-muang, that's the Thai name for my most favorite fruit in the world. We also had some ma-muang with sago (or tapioca pearls) in sweet coconut milk. They were delicious and I'm craving for them now as I type this.

The chilli and the freshness of the soft-shell crab makes this a favourite dish. Usually comes at lunch or dinner, but u can try to order for breakfast too.
