The Emporium: upscale shopping in bangkok
This modern, air-conditioned shopping mall was like a world's away from the rest of Bangkok. All the designer labels like LV, Prada, Chanel had set up shop here. The mall also houses Kinokuniya and Asia Books bookstores, CD Warehouse, a multiplex cinema, and many other upmarket stores.
The anchor tenant is the Emporium Department Store which has a large shoe department for the ladies. The main attraction for me though, was Emporium Gourmet on Level 6. A supermarket/food court combination. Free tasting for several types of fruit were offered here and there were stalls selling all kinds of "street foods." If you ever wanted to try Bangkok's street food but wasn't brave enough, then your problem is solved here :)
The expansive seating area in the food court offered sweeping views of Bangkok. A great place to rest your foot and eat durians after a long day of shopping!

The Emporium: An Upmarket Mall
This mall is a rather expensive place to shop. But if you're a brandname shopper, then go straight there. Other than being an upmarket place, it's a nice place to do window shopping. A good place to have lunch or dinner, since there are quite a few restaurants there as well as a food court. There is also a good bookstore called "Kinokuniya". They have varied sections. It's a big decent bookstore.
What to buy: Everything from head to toes.
What to pay: Seems like there is an on sale event every month, at least for the past few months. It's usually happening during the payday week.

The Emporium: Upmarket shopping on Sukhumvit
The Emporium shopping mall is full of upmarket shops selling all sorts of designer labels - you can severely dent your credit card here! There are also some very expensive jewellers.
Personally I come for the shops on the upper floors, including the Kinokuniya and Asia Books bookshops, and CD Warehouse. Just my thing! There's also a handy internet cafe, a department store, a food court, and a multiplex cinema (run by the SF Cinema chain).
It's open from 10.30am (10 at weekends) until 10pm, and it's very easy to get to - it's directly connected to the nearby Skytrain station with a footbridge.
Around Bangkok: Shopping Paradise
The Mall, Robinson, and Central are top-of-the-line, gigantic shopping malls that scatter throughout Bangkok.
Seacon Square, located on Srinakarin Road, is the largest mall in Thailand.
World Trade Center and Emporium are exclusive stores that foreigners prefered.
Big C, Carrefour, and Foodland are huge supermarkets with every household products. Things in MBK (Mahboonkhrong), Banglampoo, and Tanghuaseng are inexpensive but require a bargain capability. Pantip Plaza on Petchburi Road and It-Mall on Ratchada Road are a computer-oriented department store, selling computer hardwares and softwares, and offering computer lessons and repairs.
Emporium: Emporium departmental store
multi sotrey shop with designer outlets around it. But many Thai stuff to buy - mens shirts etc and children clothing excellent
first thing before you shop go to the customer service and get the Tourist Discount coupon - 5 pct on all items not on discount...you need a passport to proof as tourist.
Buy more than 2000 baht each day, and get the VAT claim Day By Day - on the level one just outside the girls dept store...near Prada shop I think
all departmental store: Discount Card for Tourist
If you are a tourist and shopping in the departmental store, you should get to the Customer Service section of the departmental stores such as ISetan, Emproium. It entitles you to 5 pct discount on regular priced items...such a saving on top of the VAT refund at the airport.

The Emporium: From Miles Davis to Jim Thompson
The Emporium is probably my favourite shopping center in Bangkok. Why? you might ask as it is one of the more upscale one while there are plenty of others that offer cheaper goods?
At the Emporium department store itself I could buy a very nice cotton shirt (for work) for around $10-$12; and a Chinese collar suit (with matching pants and silk shirt) for $110.
If I want to buy nicer clothes there is the Jim Thompson shop, the father of Thai silk industry. If I want to splurge there is a Zegna shop there as well.
Go further up the mall there is a large Nokia and Sony shop where you can buy cool phones and gadgets that are not available in the US.
The large Kinokuniya bookshop has selections of English language books and the CD shop next to it has a large collection of Jazz music; both of which were life savers for English speaking expat like myself.
Hungry after all that shopping? Have lunch at Fuji, which from my other tip you know is arguably the best Japanese restaurant in Bangkok. Don't want to spend $8 on lunch? Fine, go to the top floor and eat at the Emporium food court where you won't have to spend more than $3 :)
Silom complex and other: large department store
If Emporium is the most exclusive shopping center, When it raining the doorman come with a large umbrella to protect you until the entrance and all the great fashion name even the coffe shop of the Oriental are here, my favorite is the Silom complex in Silom road, large choice of restaurant in underground floor in a central location, central dpt store inside and a large choice of boutiques fashion. Siam center is really good for fashion.
Robinson in Silom is also really good. One of the largest is Future Park in Rangsit, after the airport.
What to buy: Silk, jewelry and shirt.
What to pay: less than Europe
The Emporium: Elegant shopping
This is a very elegant and expensive shopping mall where have so many world brand shops, includes a trendy and elegant boutiques, Central department store, the Oriental Coffee Shop, Starbucks, supermarket, Asia Books,Kinokuniya bookstore and some of good restaurants.A plus 's Cinemas on the 6th floor.
