There are so many gold shops in Thailand.Gold is like money in the bank for alot of Thais and gold has always been part of the Thai 'face' culture .If your wearing lots of gold you must have money. That is often true but don't be surprise if that guy with that huge gold amulet and chain is wearing his life savings.
You will see the very red Chinese style shop in almost every main district.Thai gold is 96.5% and very dark yellow in colour .For the best gold people will tell you to head down to Chinatown to the well established shops .
The best know gold shops in Yaowatrat Rd are Hua Seng Heng,Tang To Kang & Jin Hua Heng .
When I walked along Yaowarat Rd I went by many gold shops but the three shops mentioned were packed! So when in doubt just follow the crowd.
What to buy: 23 K 96.5% dark yellow gold.
What to pay: Depends on the selling price on the day. This is usually written in white on the window of the shop.
My hubby is a long time customer of this jewelry shop and so given the chance , we would drop by to say hello to the owner.
The quality of their diamonds and pearls are really great , to add their birth stones. Hubby usually buy my jewelry from here. good price and good quality.
They have one branch in chatuchak weekend market.
Because when one travels for over a year
you learn to let go and not buy many things
since you have to lug the stuff around.
But I can not have helped by in being tempted
into buying an exquisite belt with gems stones
and matching necklace at an extremely reduced price
in comparison to back home.
I was lead by my mother into a store
full of stones and beads where you can buy whole sale
or if you desire you may purchase at an inexpensive retail price,
a necklace, belt or earrings made and designed in your own choice.
There were several items from Pakistan too!
With so many dazzling items and reduced prices,
I kept on wishing that I had a store.
Definitely worth a look for those found of jewelry.
Situated within an area where several silver wholesalers are.
What to pay: Probably a fraction of the price
Certificates issued to purchases of jewelry. They have 9k, 10, 14, 18 gem sets. Picture taking prohibited but they obliged after I bought some jewelry.
The lady who assisted us was Khun Kate. She followed us as we went from display cabinets to another. Khun Chaitat, the male rep was more amiable however. He was very patient in showing us trays of jewels instead of just picking out a single piece for us to ponder on. You just have to endure the smell of cigarette on his clothing since I can already surmise that he smokes a lot.
I read that they also accept pick up from your hotel once you call them.
Noticed the red Ferrari parked in their garage before entering the main gate. Photo op?
What to buy: I bought blue topaz ring for my eldest set in white gold. The cut was very brilliant.
What to pay: Blue topaz 1.36cts with diamonds beside ring. I paid THB5200
I can not give you a specific name of a dealer, but maybe a couple jewelery shops later. I am not sure what you are looking for in jade, jewelery, statues, etc...I would highly suggest that you do some on line education on jade, quality, types, colors, and how to identify fake from real jade, it is not uncommon to find a nice piece only to find out later that it's a good imitations. Good quality jade is going to be expensive even in Bangkok. Probably the best place to find it is in China Town, best quality, best prices. A shop that I can recommend is Johny's Gems, located near China Town, very reputable and he will not sell you any fakes. You can also go to the jewelery factories where they will certify anything that you buy, located around Bangkok. You should be able to find addresses from your hotel, one is located on the corner of Sukhumvit Rd and soi 13 or 15, there are a few around. You will pay a little more here as again they are certified, but you wont be buying fake stuff.
Visit an amulet market is a wothwhile experience. Location are the follwings.
1. Near Wat Mahathat. Along Maharaji Road, a narrow lane leading to the river goes to market, selling amulets and herbal cure. It is hold every day, but best visit at weekends, where there are more thallsman sellers. It's fine only to look.

Thailand's jewellery is amazing - bright stones cut and polished to perfection and the gold so bright it gleams (higher carat than the gold in UK). The designs are unique and unlike anything you'll find in Europe in particular. The stones are of a much better quality and the prices are better too (not calculated the same way as in the UK).
What to buy: - rings
There are a wide selection of stones including rubies, sapphires, emeralds, garnets, just about any stone that could take your fancy! You can buy gold, silver, white gold, or silver with white gold plating.
What to buy:
One of the things I wanted to purchase in Bangkok was a Thai Karen hilltribe "spirit lock" -- due to either my not finding the right place and/or being on a tour and/or people wanting to sell me gold & gems rather than hilltribe silver.
Anyway these were purchased on ebay -- the small one is more like the traditional sprtit lock used by the shaman in a healing ceremony. It would have the design appropriate to what was being healed and would be "recycled" afterwards -- the other function of the spirit lock was to protect the spirit of the person being healed from evil demons.
Most tours you take in Bangkok will finish up at some jewellery store, but as they are all run by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, everything you see in them is the real McCoy and will have a certificate.
Be prepared to be followed around the store by one of the many sales people if you happen to show and interest.
World gems is huge-I have to admit I am hopelessly addicted to jewellery of all sorts and world gems had me drooling and my eyes popping out.
