This is the other shopping heaven - mercifully with air-conditioning! I enjoyed this better than Chatuchak, though only marginally as the sheer amount of human (shopper) traffic here is mind-boggingly choking. 8 floors worth of shopping trail (including a cinema), each floor decked to the full with items needed and unneeded for you. Shop, stop, look, buy, shop. That's the sequence I believed. Interspaced in between every small and big boutiques and stalls on every floor (as well as the big Tokyo Departmental Store and Tops Supermarket), you will get restaurants & eateries squeezed in for sustenance, and if you feel economical as you are fast running out of money after a hard day of spending money, there are 2 food courts: An upmarket one on the 5th and a more economical one on the 6th.
There are many shops selling 2nd hand genuine (as well as fake) jeans and bags of all kinds and designs in the basement, the 3rd (The Image Shopping Center) and the 6th floors. There is also an entire floor (the 4th) dedicated to electronic gadgetry for folks trying to get the latest handphones, web-cams and spy cameras. If you are not into fake couture, there are plenty of boutiques selling local branded apparels. Cheap, good and real. AIIZ is one such boutique and it can found in the basement. It is also a place where many folks (well, at least folks from my country) come to grab packets of the ever popular local snacks such as pork floss rice crackers, durian chips, durian candies, spicy shrimp paste etc to drag home for family, friends and colleagues.
You can certainly bargain in some stores, but quite a number are fixed-price outlets. MBK Center, also known as Mahboonkrong, is an enormous marble shopping mall in Bangkok, Thailand. At eight stories high and 330 metres long, with 2,500 shops using a total selling area of 89,000 square metres. This shopping mall used to be one of the biggest malls in Asia, when it first founded in 1985. It is particularly well known for its many vendors of mobile phones and other electronics, as well as furniture stores.MBK Center has an average of 105,000 customers daily, and is considered to be the most visited mall in the country. In MBK, fashion outlets cover everything from jeans, outsized clothing (for the 'larger' Western frame), shoes, handbags, accessories, jewellery, trendy apparel and famous-name brands. The bargain prices of many of these items mean that merchandise is often copy products or from questionable origin. It's important to take a closer look at the quality and craftsmanship. But if your idea of a shopping bargain is to pay a few dollars for an Adidas T-shirt or a Gucci belt - and authenticity is not an issue - head straight to MBK. Many of the products that can be found here are similar to that at markets, but the convenience of shopping in an air-conditioned environment beats hot and sticky markets - especially in the hot season. And, just like the markets, all prices are negotiable; MBK is probably the only mall in Bangkok where you can put your bartering skills to the test. You'll be surprised how much a big smile can knock of the original asking price. If you're shopping wholesale, prices get even more competitive.
for dried fruit (or what thai's call dehydrated fruit) THAI FRUIT Location: Zone B,Floor 3 Tel:026209338, dried mangoes 500 grams for 90 baht (Off course philippine dried mangoes are sweeter and tastier but are more expensive at about roughly 64 baht for 200 grams), dried jackfruit, dried tamarind, 3 100 gram packs for 100 baht. chinese sausages 3 packs for 100 baht, longkong (lansones in philippines) is 90 baht a kilo. There are other dizzying varietes of dried fruit and thai snacks! for eating, I ate at sizzlers at level 7, it is near the cinemas. they have at large hotplate wherein you use porkfat to cook a variety of meats, vegetables, etc and eat them with rice and sauce and a kind of thai Hot Pot soup. Very good and the price was ok at about 150 baht for 2 person. at the ground floor, they have a food center selling all kind of thai foods like thai iced tea, Kao niao Durian (sticky rice with durian), Kah-Feh Yen (thai iced tea), Gluay buad chee (banana w/ coconut milk) a variety of thai noodles and coolers. more expenive than in chatuchak but is cleaner.

Many shops, home products, soft furnishings, cameras, ipods, computers, clothing, jewellry, shoes...everything!!! BEWARE of man standing outside shopping mall before it is open. We arrived half hour before trading started. NICE man redirected us to another shopping area. FIVE minutes away, walking. We got started and we met ANOTHER NICE FRIENDLY lady...she walked with us ALL the way to another NICE shopping area. We were being directed to a Jewellry shop called GEMS, we later learnt that they get a commission on all sales from the customers they walk to the store. Needless to say, we bought jewellry.....very nice, but not our intention. This was only learnt on our return to South Africa. We will know better next time. If you go to Bangkok, then you must go to MBK, you will probably find yourself back there a few times as well! MBK is on Rama 1 Road Pathum Wan, about a ten minute walk from Siam Square or walking distance from National Stadium station or the BTS Siam Station. There are 2,500 shops and 130 eating establishments over eight floors selling everything from clothes to electronics. Depending on your bartering skills, great bargains can be had. The Food Court on the 6th floor is also something to see, its huge, cheap and the food is great. You can also give the husband a break to have a beer here! There are also plenty of massage centres to give your tired feet a rest before you start on the next floor. Fake handbags and clothes are also available here but you may need to ask a shop owner as they are not always on display. A luggage shop might have their suitcases on display filled with lots of good value fake handbags! Make sure you get your Tourist Discount Card from one of the information desks on the first and second floors. You will receive from 5% to 30% discount at participating stores. On the 8th floor there is an Entertainment Complex with 28 bowling alley's and 8 movie theatres. No matter what you are looking for you will find it at MBK. MBK is a shopping mall in Bangkok. I found many tourist shops here. You can almost find anything in MBK from men's/women's clothing to computers and electronic to antique. In MBK they are genuine and copy goods. The prices in MBK are reasonable. They are many restaurants, coffee bar in MBK. You can find different type of food ranges from Asians to European cuisines. We liked the food court, I think is located on the sixth floor. The food is a restaurant standard and the price is reasonable (US$1-$8), they serve all type of cuisines from many nationalities. Just be aware of the products that you are buying because they are many fakes merchandise especially in clothing and DVD. If you want to spend more expensive items go to Siam Paragon Mall which is next door to MBK. In the two days we were in Bangkok we didn’t have to go anywhere else for our shopping.
Thai silk make sure it's genuine, DVD movies make sure it has No 9 in the label. Gold plated tea set. You can find the item's in MBK.
DVD movies, Thai silk to gold plated tea set from US $1 to $500 Theme: OtherDirections: National Stadium Station.

Gold Necklace 15.2gms by rich104 Few other cities in the world trade Gold like in Bangkok. Other cities may sell gold but I'm talking here about trading where the margins are very fine. Thais love gold. They can trust it! Thats the main reason for the huge quantities that are sold. Traditionally it is 23k or about 96% pure which is so superior to the 9k tat that you often see in the UK. Because of its purity and the quantities traded the margin or the difference between the buying price and the selling price is very small. That means that when you buy a simple (not very decorative) necklace the retailer will not make much money from you so you end up getting more gold for your money. I mention this shop because I bought some necklaces from them 2 years ago. I returned this year to trade them in for something bigger and they gave me back more than I paid for them in the first place! Ok so I had been lucky in that gold prices had risen and the pound was a little stronger but even without that I would only have lost very little. There are many gold shops in MBK and hundreds in Bkk, especially Chinatown, so you need to shop around a little to find one where you feel comfortable. Ek Seng Heng suited me.
Depends on your reason for buying but take note that the more elaborate the piece the higher the labour cost as a proportion of the overall price. Ingots, chains and bracelets can be very simple and therefore great value.
Obviously the price of gold varies daily. Any reputable shop will have a notice displayed giving its buying and selling price per gram. Shop around and you'll soon get a feel for the right price. Leave a Comment Theme: JewelryPhone: 0-2620-9433-34Directions: Everybody knows MBK!

by wufei MBK (Mah Boon Krong) Seven floors packed with shops and more shops selling everything from crop tops to pianos. Hectic and busy especially at the weekend when half of Bangkok seems to coverge there. The food court on the sixth floor is enormous. Not as upmarket and stylish as Siam Discovery but less expensive and the range of goods is quite mind boggling- from jeans to mobile phones to bathroom items. On the top floor is an entertainment complex with cinemas boasting plush seats, new style Karaoke booths (with current chart artists - English and Thai - 20 Baht a song) a computer games area and lots of restaurants and places to snack. Open: 10:00-22:00 daily Location: On the corner of Rama I and Phayathai (Walk along the overhead bridge from Siam Skytrain station, or ask the taxi for MBK) Skytrain: National Stadium Leave a Comment Theme: OtherDirections: National Stadium Station.
