Pratunam and Baiyoke Markets, Bangkok

A walking distance away from the Erawan Shrine. Tita Lu, our official shopping guide brought us here on our first morning at Bangkok. It's literary a market. The place is dark & the vendors have a hard time communicating in english. This place offers a wide variety of clothes & personal effects. You can buy things in wholesale provided you buy in 6 or more. On our way there, there are street vendors, and I was able to buy a very nice white blouse with a ribbon belt for only 200 Bhat.

Pratunam Area is known for their whole sale market. They offer a very reasonable price esp if you will purchase on whole sale (6pieces or more depending on the item) basis.

From clothes, shoes, bags, t shirts, souvenirs, home decors, linen etc.

just make sure to bargain before purchasing ( 50% off the asking price)

Pratunam market is right out side of our hotel, the Indra Regent, its a great expreince to shop in Bangkok, it like nothing else on earth.
You will enter a small opening into the market and from there its look buy walk in that order, there is so many diffrent stores making a desion can be difficult to make. The best way that i found was to walk around making note of what i liked and then went back the next day, that was my way but you may just buy as you go.

What to buy: Clothing is the big thing to buy here, from shirts to shorts to undies to socks and its all cheap.

What to pay: Tee Shirts from 50batt
Replica Rolex watch's are plentyfull, just make sure everything works before you buy and do look around coz the prices are varied.

Pratunam is a shoppers delight in bangkok and being a girl i had an amazing time over there. There is no specefic shop to mention but whole area is full of shops filled with clothes, bags and a lot of accessories . If ur a shopohlic and in bangkok do visit this place, the platinum mall, an upmarket swanky airconditioned mall right opposite amary water gate hotel, the city center and a lot of small shops adjoining them. try to shop in a group so you get a good bargain or buy atleast 3 pieces or more from the same shop to get a good rate. their rates are cheaper than that of Indira Plaza which is much hyped.

What to buy: If you are in pratunam you can look out for ladies and kids clothes, very goood quality cotton and you should have an eye to catch good craftsmanship. Ladies bags can not be as cheap as they are here, the shops are very colourful and bright. City Center is ladies delight 6 floors of clothes, bags, shoes , accessories and custom tailoring all at wholesale price. but pls dont forget to bargain. u can spend hours over here and burn your money very fast.

What to pay: any good bag in the range of 199 bhatt, ladies top 250-350 bhatts, footwera for 199 bhatt

The Pratunam and Baiyoke Markets were just outside our hotel, the Indra Regent, so naturally this was our first shopping destination. The Pratunam Market is famously known as the largest clothing market in Bangkok, they sell clothings for men, women, and children. If they don't have it in Pratunam, then they don't have it in Bangkok :)

Pratunam and Baiyoke Markets is not just in and along the streets but there are covered areas as well. Step inside Baiyoke Tower and you'll find even more shops. There's also a small branch of the PATA Department Store.

You may find that the prices are already cheap, but they can be even cheaper if you know how to bargain :) One minor note here is that the shops in Pratunam closes early, around 8 pm so make sure you plan your time wisely.

What to pay: depends on how good your bargaining skill is, but shouldn't be much

Pratunum Market and suurounding area includes a lot of Wholesale shops (inside covered markets). The rules/law means that you cant try on (well just do it anyway and feign ignorance) and if you bargain.buy more than 3 items per shop (all different) you get prices of 200/250 Baht per item of clothing. Smaller items like tube tops will be 150 Baht

Coming from KL a shirt will be 800 Baht plus so saving 75%. Do baragin and just walk away a lot. Usually though there prices start lowish with only smaller discounts say 10/20%. Some have prices and discounts on the wall. In more tourist areas they start at 800 Baht abd sell you a "bargain" for 400 Baht. If they dont look depressed then you have not got a bargain!

Not so good if you are...shall we say a larger size...I only bought shirts as mens trousers look more asian fit. The gf bought a lot though and quality is good

Bought a large back pack with built in trolley - a good one well designed and tough - for 950 Baht (started at 1200 Baht). In KL over 3,000 Baht.

Thais follow the Roman principle of Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware!) so happy carefull shopping!

after going to several night markets (silom, patpong, khaosan road), pratunam market is by far the cheapest market for clothes aside from chatuchak weekend market...tshirts/blouses for only 70-100 baht, blazers for 250baht, string pants for 100 baht, suits for 250 baht, etc. be ready to haggle..market opens at 9:00am and closes at 6:00pm...the market is near amari watergate hotel and baiyoke sky hotel.

What to buy: thai blouses and skirts, thai silk shawls, string pants in thai design,

What to pay: it depends...for a minimum of 500 baht you have a wardrobe already (blouse, skirt, sandals)

The Pratunam market is a very cheap market , and you can find the same items which you can find it in the MBK shopping center and the price is cheaper by 75%.
In Bangkok markets you can find alot of clothes for the small size girls and the quality of the clothes is low , if you wanna to buy a good quality one you will find it in the big shopping center such as world trade center but its very expensive.
Dont miss the Big C shopping center which its located in the front of world trade center, if you are looking for both quality and low price.

Its a big area with different local stalls...
better to go there in the morning, first hour as it opens so it will be less crowded...

What to pay: oh this will depend on how much you can spend...hehe...but important that you initially scout the are first and look at other places to shop...

Sited in the Pratunam area, flanked by a number of hotels such as the Indra Regent, The Baiyoke Sky & the Baiyoke Boutique, I stumbled upon this paradise of wholesale shopping.

Unlike the body-to-body packed JJ Market and MBK, the Centre is almost devoid of tourists....which quite honestly, is quite god-sent! You'll see more of locals here.....hunting for the next available bargain. I wandered the Centre in awe, struck by the choices I faced. You'll get boutiques selling a galaxy of choices: Fashion men and women casual and work clothes, silk garments, toys, undergarments, souvenirs etc.

There is a food court here on the 2F, operating in the same Modus Operandi of the 6F food court in MBK Center. You buy coupons in denominations of 100 Bahts, pay for your food in these coupons, and get your fund on unused coupons before the end of the same day.

Open daily from 09:00 - 19:30.

And if Indra Square does not satisfy your insatiable need to spend Bahts till the last drop, the Platinum Fashion Mall (Think Chatuchak Market in a mall) is just walking distance away, another labyrinth of wandering eyes and sharp noses, digging for the next cheap and good deal. And on the weekends, the Pratunam Weekend Flea Market springs into life, clogging the streets around Pratunam with more human traffic.
