    Bangkok Art and Culture Centre

Entrance is free. The exhibitions are changed regularly so there's always something new to look at. Spread over nine floors the building is spacious although when I visited there was a lot of unused exhibition space.

There are some lovely cafes and small shops selling jewellery etc that is made by local artists. I bought a fantastic pair of original silver earrings from a young designer. It is a great place to spend an hour or so, get a coffee and see some Thai art work.

    Opening hours 10:00 - 21:00 (closed Monday's)

When you travel to Thailand or Asian countries, you would probably expect to see ancient cultural art like temple, palace, and Buddhist-related place.

Well, Bangkok Art & Culture Centre (BACC) would definitely surprise you, this art gallery/museum locates right at the heart of Bangkok. It's next to the MBK, Siam Discovery, Siam Square, and Siam Paragon, which I'm pretty sure all of you tourists must visit. It's conveniently connected to BTS (Sky Train) National Stadium station (It's the last stop of Silom Line) after Siam station. Walk toward exit 3, but don't take exit 3 because there's a bridge connect to the building.

For me, exhibits over there are not bad, but not too good. Please check out, I believe, the 7th floor. As of July 2012, it's an exhibit honoring King of Thailand. The paintings and sculptures are superb. They left me speechless and gave me goosebumps. They show how much Thai people respect and tribute to the King.

In conclusion, I highly recommend BACC if you have an hour or couple more to spare during visit to Siam Square area. Shopping in MBK is fun but can get boring quickly when you seeing same stuffs all over again everywhere, so if you are bored with that, check out BACC, just right opposite MBK. This might give you a new perspective of contemporary art of Thailand.

    The Best of Its Kind

BACC is always one of my first destination choices when visiting Pathumwan district. It locates between two major department stores (MBK and Siam Paragon). It is free of charge. You can visit this art center for a bit of artistic experience or just taking a break after hours of shopping.

The center exhibits contemporary art. There always have at least 7-8 interesting exhibitions showing. My favorite point is that one or more of these exhibitions always have good interactive aspects. For example, in the “Good to Walk” exhibition that currently exhibits in the center, you can walk in a white narrow path that seemed to lead you to a fantasy place; or when you dance in front of certain characters in the wall, they will follow your step.

The shops and restaurants in the center provide creative product and service in a reasonable price. I like traditional Thai dessert ice cream of the iceDEA, the ice cream restaurant. There is also the theatre that shows art movie and it is free.

The only art center in Bangkok that can be compared with BACC in size may be the Queen’s Gallery at Ratchadamnoen. However, for me, BACC is better in term of facility and interactive art. So I can say that it is the best of its kind in Thailand :)

tired of shopping ? go to BACC

by chasingrainbow Updated Apr 13, 2012
    he is really good !

Bangkok Art & Culture Centre is a good place to go if you are tired waiting for your woman while she is busy shopping near the area. They have a temporary shop inside, showcases the artists' portfolio / project, which is cool and interesting to look at.
when I went , there's a sketch artist that can make your picture in 30 minutes for about 200-400b

Look at the website, for the schedule of exhibition / activity .

Bangkok Art and Culture Centre - centre atrium

The newly opened Bangkok Art and Culture Centre is located opposite MBK at the corner of Pathumwan intersection near Siam. It is a modern building that doesn't look too big. But it is actually quite impressive when you are inside. It has 7 storeys if i am not mistaken as I lost count since I got inside and follow some spiral walkway along the center atrium. Entrance is free. It took 11 years from planning to completion in mid 2008.

    Gallery hours: 10:00 - 21:00 daily
