checkout the chao phraya river, the longest river in thailand, you can have a dinner cruise along chao phraya river for only 300baht (eat all you can) just go to Shangrila hotel, then ask for the dinner cruise...time of departure is around 7pm so be there by 6:30pm...see the sights of bangkok at night...marvel at the grand palace lights! or if you are staying at one of the hotels along the river...the hotel can arrange a dinner cruise for you just ask the hotel personnel about it

The river is not only one of the main arteries of the city but also your best ally when visiting the temples and seeing the sights. It will allow you to get to the different districts and neighbourghoods for a few baths only and quick,quick and fast ! A very good way to see the city and get a good view of the kind of landscape you are dealing with is just to go for a little cruise on the river. It does not have to be one of the rented boats. The ferry can doo the trick just as well and you get to mix with locals and not so locals :-)

If you have time to spend, simply buy a day pass ticket, align at any stop of your choice, explore, then back to boat and move to next stop. This will be a great experience.

God Fishes

When you are on the cruise along the Chao Phraya River, you will discovered that there are alot of fat and huge catfishes near the Temples. Local called these fishes god fish as they believed they will bring them prosperous and harmony. These fishes are put into the river by the local on special day like the buddha birthday in hope for a smooth and prosperous year.

You can buy the bread for 20 baht to feed the fishes. We were here supposedly to see the floating market but there were only a few in sight.The water was choppy when the big longboats pass with all the tourists and these poor guys was trying to get to the longboats to sell souveniors. I managed to buy some stuffs as I pitied the guy, he was hanging on to his small boat by holding on to our boat and trying not to fall in the water. Not a good place for a floating market.And I felt like I didnt really see the real floating market, like the one we saw on tv.

One of the beautiful hotels in the bank of the river Chao Phraya. The Art-Deco style for the main windows in the front is my fave :)

One of the oldest hotel nearby the river. And nearby this place is located an old Chinese temple. A unique views I'd got in the evening :)

The first time I "landed" here at the pier after BTS station Saphan Taksin, it's really remind me with Venezia Sancta Lucia station before using river bus to San Marco :)
