Chatuchak Weekend Market: Hot, crowded, full range of stuffs
  • Tip Rating:
  • Chatuchak Weekend Market... is the market really open only during the weekend? i dont know... but i personally think it is not true. Maybe there are infact extra shops/stalls open during the weekend, causing the place goes mad during Sat and Sun. And during weekdays, only several open for business... One thing is true... there are really really really a lot lot lot of shops and stalls selling different different different kinds of stuffs such as: - Books & Collection - Decorations - Plants & Gardening Tools - Clothing - Home Utensils - Handcrafts - Pets & Pet Accessories - Furniture - Antique - Arts Same tip as others, go early if you wanted to avoid the crowd, and try to wear light. Bring along more water as you will get dehydrated in the heat of crowd. One thing i notice is that there are more stalls open along the empty street within the market after 4/5pm. But they are actually the same original stalls, only that they want to grab the visitors walking thru the empty street. So it is still advisable to go in the early morning...

  • Small, tight lanes and many many small stalls that sell similar items make up this humongous market. This market is so big, you will feel overwhelmed at first, but if you take time to walk through the lanes starting from the very end and making your way slowly back to the station, you will feel that you have accomplished a great feat. You'll be spoilt for choice, but don't forget to bargain. When you ask them to lower their prices, they may sometimes not be pleased, but will offer a slightly cheaper price than they first mentioned. May take you a whole day and a bit more to really see everything.

Chatachuk Market is a bargain hunter's dream come true. Anyone who enjoys shopping and getting good deals on clothing, jewelry, puppies, or presents should visit the market. I decided to hop off the BTS skytrain one stop early to walk through the amulet market and take some pictures. It wasn't that far of a walk and it was fun. Once I reached the market, I had a grand time taking pictures and shopping for small gifts for the people back home. I was happy to see that the wild animal section has been "cleaned up" and now it looks like a big pet adoption center for puppies, rabbits, fish, and even squirrels. I did not find any exotic or banned animals for sale. The animal section was also a great place to pick up some little presents for my puppy back home like winter shoes or a collar with cute sayings :) The prices were amazingly cheap and I hardly even bothered with bargaining unless I was purchasing more than one thing at a shop. While 85THB may be a lot for someone in Thailand, it translates to just around 2 Euros and not a bad price for a small handcrafted purse! I bought everything from fresh fruit smoothies to paper lanterns :) Now I know why so many people have to pay excess baggage on the way back from Thailand!

Chatuchak Weekend Market: Jatujak weekend market
  • Tip Rating:
  • A must go place. Huge variety of handcraft, souvenier, clothing and so on.. If you really find something worth buying, don't ever think you'd know how to come back to the same stall again. You won't be able to find it in short time, unless you have no idea to kill time.

Chatuchak Weekend Market: Bring a extra Bag !!!!!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Ok, I have to admit, this was lots of fun, first of all bring a bag big enough where you are gonna put all the stuff your gonna buy !!!! In my case I ended up buying a huge duffle bag for 200 bahts about $5 U.S. and I quickly filled with tons of stuff, silk boxer shorts for 80 bahts each $2 U.S. each, bought 30 of them !!!!, leather sandals 200 bahts each $5 U.S., bought 2 pair's for every member of my family !!!!!! Hard Rock cafe Hats that cost $16 U.S. at the real Hard Rock, paid 80 bahts each, $2 U.S. here; bought 20 of them for gifts for friends back home !!!!! can't tell the difference if there real or not !!!! Souvenir Magnets for the fridge saw them aroud town for 40 bahts each, here I got them for 15 bahts each, .35 cents U.S. bought 100 of them !!!!!!!! Tons and Tons of souvenirs are all over, just remeber negotiate a price, start with half of what they say and make your way to a fair price. Be carfeul of pickpockets because this place is really crowded, but it's full of all sorts of people and I never felt threaten or in danger !!!! Lots of fun...HIGHLY RECOMMEND it !!!!!

Upon arriving in Bangkok at 1:00 am it was straight to the hotel for 6 hours of sleep, then off to the weekend market. Take the Skytrain to mo Chit Station. You will see EVERYTHING imaginable here. Of particular interest is the section full of animals. There is every type of dog bread available including endagered species of exotic animals. People can get very upset if you attempt to take pictures. Some do not mind, but be aware. Eat the food !! We tried everything and it was terriffic. Make certain you get here early because it gets very crowded and very hot !
