Music in the park is another activity arranged by Bangkok Metropolitan. Every weekend around 5.30 PM until 8-9 PM in some public parks in Bangkok such as "SuanLumpini" or "Suan SantiChaiPhrakan" (Suan = park)there're small concerts free of charge for everyone.Music style depends on each season.Could be from Jazz ...Orchestra from university ..to contemporary Thai music.
Bands are changing every week.At the moment is season of "Era of Thai music" but not always traditional Thai music though. It could be contemporary (mixed Thai-western music) too.
Recline and relax on the green grass to listen to music is interesting for lazy weekend, isn't it?
Update : Feb 2007
From this weekend upward. It will be Thai traditional music concerts. Go check it out!

A very nice open space to walk before sunset, so that it's not so hot. At that time, you'll probably witness an aerobics class. Both men and women take part.
There are lots of pigeons to feed and trees where to sit under.
It's located right in downtown, surrounded by tall and modern office buildings.

The park sets itself at the very heart of Bangkok's busiest business area, between Silom and Sathorn Road. Open as early as 4 in the morning, there you'll find lots of morning surfers (mostly aged between 55-70 something), having their group 'Ji-Gong' exercise. The park is quiet during working hours and becomes crouded again around 5 p.m. -- The hi-light is here, there's a free aerobic session at 6 p.m. gathering hundreds (or thousands) of people every day (except Sun.) It's a pleasure walking/jogging around the park, as there're so many things to see and do. + Sometimes a free concert on Sundays.

A GREAT PLACE TO CHILL OUT FROM THE HECTIC PACE OF BANGKOK LIFE IS LUMPINI PARK,
NAMED AFTER THE BIRTHPLACE OF BUDDHA THIS PARK IS RIGHT IN THE CENTRE OF THE CITY.
NO MATTER WHAT TIME OF DAY YOU COME THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING GOING ON..
LIKE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING WHEN THE PARK IS AT ITS QUITEST YOU CAN WATCH AS LOCALS YOUNG AND OLD PRACTICE THEIR THAI CHI. ALSO AT THIS TIME JOGGERS POUND THEIR WAY AROUND THE FOOTPATHS THAT SNAKE AROUND THE PARK.
WE USED THE PARK IN THE AFTERNOONS AND IT WAS GREAT TO FIND A TREE AND LIE IN THE SHADE AND READ OR JUST WATCH THE WORLD GO BY. I THOUGHT COMING ACROSS THIS PARK WAS A REAL FIND AND IN A CITY AS MAD AS BANGKOK ITS GREAT TO HAVE THIS PLACE TO SPEND AN HOUR OR SO TO CATCH YOUR BREATH AND REST YOUR WEARY FEET, AND I CANT THINK OF A NICER PLACE TO DO IT IN...SO NEXT TIME YOUR IN BANGKOK TAKE TIME OUT TO STROLL AROUND THIS VERY PLEASANT OASIS IN THE HEART OF THE BIG CITY.

This beautiful park, named after Buddha's birthplace in Nepal, spreads out over several green acres. A range of activities are undertaken there - from open-air concerts, aerobics classes, tai chi, jogging and exercise walking, family picnics, kite-flying - or just watching the grass grow! A lovely oasis in the middle of this busy city.

Part exercise yard, part picnic area, part playground, Lumphini Park is a green and spacious escape route from the sometimes chaotic, always busy city surrounding it.
During the day you can wander around the walkways, hire a boat to row on the oriental lake and between February and April watch the skill of the kite flyers. However, it is worth getting up early and visiting the park before 8.00am to view the hive of activity that is the numerous Tai Chi, dance and other exercise classes.
Music flows from tape machine, instructors spur - sometimes quite fiercely - their pupils on while those who have finished sit chatting over baskets of breakfast food. There really is a sense of community and continuity about the whole scene, as if something along these lines has been happening for years past and will continue for years to come.
At 8.00am the activity stops as the National Anthem is played and from then participants drift away to homes or jobs. Until the next morning that is when the ritual starts again, a continuing, renewing cycle. Go, experience and take a little bit of that continuity away with you.

Lumpini park is a nice little place to come and get away from the heat and humidity of the city. Has some nice water features and plenty of seats to sit and watch the world go by. What interested me the most was the open air gym they had there, if only I'd brought my training gear I was thinking! Probably best to visit this place early morning or late evening at the begining or end of your days sightseeing.

After tired of sightseeing and shopping in Bangkok, take a rest to cool down at Lumpini Park. Especially when you are exhausted shopping at Silom street or Suan Lum night bazaar which located just accross the street.
In the afternoon/evening, many people use the park also for jogging and any other sports activities.
There are some small lakes in the park where you can rent a paddle boat for your romantic time with your beloved one.

Really large park in the center of the city, it have a small lake too with pedal boat.
The statue of Rama 6 at the entrance was the first large statue ever made in Thailand. The opening ceremony was held in 1942 and a ceremony to pay hamage to king Rama 6 is performed annually at the site on november 25, the anniversary of his death.
