Part exercise yard, part picnic area, part playground, Lumphini Park is a green and spacious escape route from the sometimes chaotic, always busy city surrounding it.
During the day you can wander around the walkways, hire a boat to row on the oriental lake and between February and April watch the skill of the kite flyers. However, it is worth getting up early and visiting the park before 8.00am to view the hive of activity that is the numerous Tai Chi, dance and other exercise classes.
Music flows from tape machine, instructors spur - sometimes quite fiercely - their pupils on while those who have finished sit chatting over baskets of breakfast food. There really is a sense of community and continuity about the whole scene, as if something along these lines has been happening for years past and will continue for years to come.
At 8.00am the activity stops as the National Anthem is played and from then participants drift away to homes or jobs. Until the next morning that is when the ritual starts again, a continuing, renewing cycle. Go, experience and take a little bit of that continuity away with you.

Lumpini park is a nice little place to come and get away from the heat and humidity of the city. Has some nice water features and plenty of seats to sit and watch the world go by. What interested me the most was the open air gym they had there, if only I'd brought my training gear I was thinking! Probably best to visit this place early morning or late evening at the begining or end of your days sightseeing.

Lumphini Park is a pleasant green space just northeast of the Silom Road area (a night-time shopping spot). In the early evening hundreds of Bangkok people come here to exercise. I felt lazy just walking around slowly as hundreds of joggers panted past me! Later, they must have joined with the hundreds of jazzercise fans as a mass aerobics session got underway. Most Thai people look very fit and healthy and I can see that they take exercise very seriously!

The 140-acre Lumphini Park was created in the 1920s by King Rama VI on royal property. A statue of the king stands at the south-western entrance to the park. It was named for Lumphini, the birthplace of the Buddha in Nepal, and at the time of its creation stood on the outskirts of the city but is now surrounded by tall buildings and Bangkok's famous traffic. It has the city's first public library and dance hall and makes for a nice and pleasant visit to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the city.

Lumphini Park is a beautiful park where you can enjoy lots of activities including boating at the lagoon. You can feed the fishes & birds at the lagoon. There are many people having their exercise routine like jogging or you can just simply take a walk. There's even an aerobic class going on there. A swimming pool is also one of the park's facilities. Nice place for people watching also.

A trip to Bangkok must include a visit to this park. You cannot believe that you have this "oasis" in the middle of Bangkok. I have only visited in the early evening, and you then have free arobics classes on the go, many locals jogging around the park, and it is the ideal place to relax and enjoy people. There are night markets around the corner, and many pavement resturants operate after 6.00pm

A very nice open space to walk before sunset, so that it's not so hot. At that time, you'll probably witness an aerobics class. Both men and women take part.
There are lots of pigeons to feed and trees where to sit under.
It's located right in downtown, surrounded by tall and modern office buildings.

The largest and most popular park in Bangkok, Lumphini holds an artificial lake in its center with green lawns and walking paths surrounding it. Best viewed bright and early in the morning when Chinese-Thais practice an old traditional martial arts, Tai Chi. A great escape from hectic Bangkok within Bangkok.

Still jet lagged on our first day walking around Bangkok we came across Lumpini Park which was just what we needed. Although coming from London this doesn't quite prepare you for the madness that is Bangkok. Tired and worn out we took some time out in the park sitting by the lake. The noise of the city seems to disappear when you're in here too.
One thing we did notice which broke the peace for a while was a large monitor lizard climbing out of the water on the opposite bank which came as quite a surprise to the smooching couple right in front of it!
In front of the park is the monument of King Rama VI, built in 1941 and also Lumpini Metro station.
There are a number of facilities, toilets and a place to grap a drink or bite to eat, also boats to hire out for 30 bahts for half hour.
