Bangkok is a pretty good place to catch a movie - most Hollywood movies are subtitled with the original soundtrack in central Bangkok, but dubbed into Thai elsewhere. If you're not sure, check it's the 'English version' of the movie showing. Both the World Trade Centre and Siam Square have quite a few cinema screens, the former seemed more up to date to me. The multiplex at the Emporium mostly shows films with English-language soundtracks, as does the newest arrival - the cinema at the new Siam Paragon mall.
New screens seem to be opening all the time - EGV, Major Cineplex and SF Cinema City are three of the major chains to look out for. You can check what's on and show times at www.movieseer.com. Most places seem to charge 100-150 baht per ticket.

If you are a movie/cinema buff.....Bangkok is like heaven.
This is one of my favourite things to do when I am in Bangkok. I think after dining out, going to the movies must be one of the favourite pastimes of the thais. I have no other explanation for the sheer quality of the cinema's in Bangkok. I consider them to be the best cinema's in the world.
They are just a step behind the USA, but the cinema's here always seem to boast the latest technology(soundsystems, digital, THX, Imax etc). They are miles ahead of the cinema's in europe.
They also boast a broad selection of available movies. Not only the latest blockbusters, but also local and other asian movies. (some theatres even provide english subtitles!!)
But the reason I consider the Bangkok cinema's to be the best in the world is the extra luxury and comfort they deliver. They have extra luxury classes in thailand.(aka Gold, emperor class etc)
You can wait at a VIP lounge, get extra snacks and cocktails. But the real kicker is that once in the theater you literally get the BEST seats in the house. Not only the best location, but your seats are truly huge luxury recliners that you can set to your own preference. There is so much room around you..that you would not even notice your neighbours. When I went to the cinema in the Emporium..there seem to be an enhanced soundsystem in my location. Seems like basshakers or they just had some extra woofers close by. I could feel the action.
There are other countries that deliver the same kind of luxurylevel like for example Indonesia...but what makes Thailand standout is it's combination of luxury and the quality of the cinema(technology) and movie selection(censor, releasetime).
Going to the cinema in Bangkok...truly one of the most underrated experiences and must do things in Bangkok. I am really confident in giving you this advice and I have no doubt that you'll enjoy this experience. Great for kids or just to escape the hustle and bustle of bangkok.

If you fancy ctaching the latest flick on a big screen in air conditioned comfort, then your best bet is to head to one of the main Bangkok shopping centres, like the Siam or MBK centres. They tend to be located on the top foor of the buildings. Be prepared to stretch your legs a little, as prior to the screening you will be required to stand for the national anthem. The Thai's are very patriotic people.

Escape the hustle and bustle and take a trip to the movies. The seats are very comfortable and you will pay a lot less than at home. A lot of the movies are in English with Thai subtitles. It can be a lot of fun. When I went, the Thai people sometimes laughed at different times to us in the movie. One thing to remember is that you must stand at the start of the movie as the National Anthem is played and the King of Thailand is displayed on the big screen. The craziest thing for me was that after the movie I went to the Ladies Room and met someone I knew !
