Patpong Night Market, Bangkok
This will be my Patpong Thing to do Tips , I will have a separate Tips for the Patpong Night Life at Patpong and at the other areas of Patpong in Silom hehhehe.
Due to the Bad Rap that Patpong is getting due to it's notoriety as a most famous red light district of Bangkok (the other red light districts are less known but more known to expatriates). The government decided in the late 1990' to gentrify the area by introducing a night market in the street lining Patpong 1 and also at the Adjacent areas of Patpong 2, 3, and 4 streets and it is now a bustling nightmarket that starts to open at 6:00 pm and ends at 1:00 am the next day and that these nightmarket stands side by side with the girly bars and the decent bars of the patpong area! they offer all the assorted trinkets, fake branded goods, pirated videos and computer programs, bags, shirts and other stuffs that you can see in other night markets in other areas of bangkok and also at the usual shopping areas of Chatuchak, Pratunam, Siam Square, MBK, Nana, etc.
Patpong maybe notoriously world famous at the quintissential Red Light District In Bangkok but it is not the only Red LightDistrict in bangkok. in fact is has become sort of gentrified as there are lots of stalls for the night markets that tend to cover the notorious girlie bars in Patpong. While Patpong is internationally known as a red light district at the heart of Bangkok's sex industry, the city in fact has numerous red-light districts like Nana Plaza (see my tips), Soi Cowboy, Sukhumvit Soi 7-1 (will do a tip), Thonglor, etc and these joints have no night market to cover the entrance to the area hehehe. Patpong consists of two parallel side streets running between Silom Road and Surawong Road and one side street running from the opposite side of Surawong. Patpong is within walking distance of the SkyTrain's Sala Daeng Station, and Bangkok Metro's Si Lom Station.
Patpong 1 is the main street with many bars of various kinds. Patpong 2 also has many similar bars. Next to these lies Soi Jaruwan, sometimes referred to as Patpong 3 but best known as Silom Soi 4 or Soi Kathoey (for gay men who loves ladyboys). Soi Thaniya has expensive bars with Thai hostesses that cater almost exclusively to Japanese men. Most Patpong go-go bars feature women dancing on a stage. The dancers (and even occasionally the serving staff) are generally available to customers willing to pay a bar fine to take them out of the bar; the fees for sexual services are negotiated separately. Some establishments advertising "massages" are in fact disguised brothels, and a few notorious "blowjob bars" offer oral sex in back rooms. Famous of which is LOLITA's BJ Bar which has a Branch near Nana Plaza.
I was within walking distance to the Patpong markets two of the times that I visited Bangkok. These are really fine markets that have most or all of that you want when visiting a market. I, like nearly everyone else got my T shirt. For me also there was some nice leather items also . There is an abundance of clothing items , leather items, shoes , belts , Handbags, jackets, beltbuckles, especially wtches and sunglasses.Certainly is a place to pick up a bargain, although most items are "pirate" items most buyers don't seem to worry. I used to have a few beers across the road from The Pat Pong markets and it was with great interest to watch how quickly they set up all the covered stalls..amazing..
A word of Warning for the unwary PatPong Markets are a mecca for prostitutes and "naughty shows" so don't be surprised when you are walking the streets in the marketplace. you will constantly be harassed to "come inside" and watch the show.
The Patpong area is famous for its bars, neon lights, girls, sex shows, and massage parlors, but in recent years has spawned a bustling Night Market along the central streets (hemmed in on all sides by go-go bars and sex-show clubs). This popular Night Market has lots of faux brands: pirated CDs and tapes, designer knockoffs, copy watches (including fake "Rolexes" that we've gotten some good reports on), leather goods stamped with desirable logos (sure to hold up better than cardboard) -- not especially cheap, but lively and fun, especially if you enjoy crowds and the challenge of hard bargaining. Open daily after sundown.
Patpong is a Bangkok district well-known because of its spicy nightlife and its large number of lap-dance clubs, where you will be invited to enter by beautiful women.
I did not experience the lap-dance clubs, but I liked the area because of a nice open air market where I bought nice things at very reasonable prices.
dont go bar in any interior either alone or in group with broker they simply charge you with lots of money without your knowledge and you have to pay for that &you cant able to do any thing you have to save you with payment . we have an experience of 2 beer charge at the cost of 4000Bhat
so please go their with that safety feature.. its my advice
Patpong is the world famous strip & Bangkok's main night entertainment district. Also popular for its vibrant night bazaar. You can watch girlie shows with the girls exhibiting their "talents". There are two main streets here Patpong 1 & Patpong 2 very close to each other.
If you happen to stay in Dusit Thani or hotels nearby, you'll surely have plenty of things to do either day or night. This is due to its location situated in the heart of the city centre. Commuting is very convenient because of elevated trains and subways surrounded. At night, you will certainly enjoy BKK's nightlife just a walking distance back and forth to the Patpong, which hopefully you and everyone in the world who know bangkok also know Patpong. You may enjoy yourself in bar scenes or enjoy shopping from peddlers around. Or you still have a chance to visit Suan Lum Night Bazaar. By day, you can take walks to the biggest park just across from the hotel if you're environmental friendly. Then, you can ride just a few stations from the elevated train to the most luxurious malls in town: Central world, Siam Paragon, Siam Centre, Mah Boonkrong, Central Chidlom.
Do go and have a stroll around this very lively area. Do go with an open mind, as it is also the red-light district of Bangkok. There are many markets and restaurants. I don’t think you think you will find something that this easily in any other city.
Don't miss out on this - it is well worth the visit.
Patpong is known as the red light district in Bangkok but it has toned down since.
It's also the place where you can find the night markets as well selling imitation watches, bags, clothes and pens.
Walk along the side where the cafes are and you can find people touting....shoving sheets of papers in your hands asking you to go inside to see "ping pong" shows.
Patpong has a great nighttime market although the prices are truly inflated for the farangs. Some vendors will ask for 1500TBH for a t-shirt when you can actually purchase one for much, much less (I think the real price was around 500-700TBH...if I remember correct!)
The other interesting part of Patpong is of course the sex shows. Walking through Patpong is kind of like visiting Amsterdam's Red Light District. It's an experience and it's part of life in Bangkok. It doesn't matter if you are a man or woman, you will get the exact same offers to go inside the clubs around the market. Most offers occur when you are walking on the outskirts of the market, I never got an offer while I was actually inside the rows of stalls.
Even though I wasn't interested in the sex industry that was offered, I still had a great time with my friends in Patpong and recommend anyone who visits Bangkok to go there at least for one night to see what it's like!
There are two things to Patpong. The night market and the Ping Pong shows and go go bars. Market was good. Clothes, Jewellery, leather goods. Need to be good at bargaining. The prices start high, but soon come down. Shop around as prices do vary. Even if you don't go into any of the bars, it's worth walking around here just to get an idea of what's going on. The go go bars are just girls in bikinis looking bored dancing (sort of) on stage.
Any trip to Bangkok is not complete without a trip to Patpong Night Market.
Grab a tuktuk and get dropped off, and be inundated with market sellers calling you over to buy their mostly fake/dodgy goods. Be prepared to haggle as much as possible. CDs, DVDs, porn, clothes, bags, jewellery, you name it, are for sale.
As well as stuff to buy, watch out for the various sex clubs/gogo clubs, complete with "pussy banana" and "pussy motorcycle" adverts outside.
A MUST if you are in Bangkok....and you''ll actually go away with some pretty good stuff.
Anything you want you will find at Patpong for a price.
There are the night markets, selling all the normal pirated goods.
Then there are the bars.
Watch out you are not ripped off, some of the girlie bars charge no admission charges but drinks are extremely expensive.
Best to go where the drinks are fixed price and you know what you are up for.
There are also "normal bars" where you can get go for a drink and not be annoyed by people trying to make you buy them drinks.
We have taken friends a couple of times to Patpong and we have all have a great time.
This area is probably best go for it's go go bars and sex scene which when you consider how young the victims of this trade lends a sadness to the area. It is in fact two small streets - Patpong 1 and Patpong 2. Located between Silom Road and Surawongse Road, Patpong 1 and Patpong 2 run alongside each other.
However thankfully more and more visititors are coming to this area for shopping .The street stalls in the middle of the road offer just about everything you want – a really perfect place to pick up gifts for people back home. We found this was the only area where you can large T Shirts.
Note that many of the stalls don't open until 7PM...it's pretty sleepy until then.
There lots of little restaurants in the area as well
I don't know why, but when for the very first time in Bangkok I always took my bearings by taking the SILOM ROAD and, from there to other places. Maybe because of this business district has the city's greatest concentration of luxury hotels, or just because of SILOM's ROAD most famous attraction named PATPONG!
Ofcourse PATPONG, once most famous as red-light district, has calmed down a lot and, for now draws more sightseers that ... flesh-seekers, heeheeh! Oh yeah, there are the Go-Go bars, ping-pong shows, Gay Men's equivalents, some restaurants "trés elegant" and the night street market, so do have a fun time on SILOM ROAD. Traffic can be thick in these part of town, but the SkyTrain, Subway and River Express provide some transport relief.
