On the way from Wat Phra (Grand Palace) to Wat Pho, we heard a lot of liars keep telling us that Wat Pho was closed and offered to bring us to other places. Thanks to other VT members' tips, we knew it was a con!

The entrance fee is THB50 (as at July'06) per person. I read about a secret pathway into the wat that you dont need to pay any penny. Guess what, you actually dont need to pay anything to go in, and nobody ever bother about it. But we only found out about it after we bought the ticket from the ticket booth. Nobody ever ask to check our ticket or anything. Everybody just come and go freely... But hey, just treat it as a good will, so that they can use your money to maintain the wat so your son or grandson can come and visit in the future :)

inside the wat, you can see huge golden reclining Buddha just nicely fitted into the house. It will look nicer if the house can be a little bit bigger so you can view the whole Buddha from a distance. At the feet of the Buddha, there are some drawings which i dont really know what it is, but it is nice.. heheheh.... Then you you will come across a long queue where people put coins into a 12" steel container along the way out. You can donate any amount to get the changes to put into the container. Unluckily, we finished putting our coins into the first few containers before the container ends. I think this is for good luck...

On top of being Bangkok's oldest temple is the cradle of Thai Traditional massage and the site of the academy of Thai massage by excelence.

Since the 1960s people from all around the world have come here to learn the art of the massage, related to the Chinese acupuncture and the Indian yoga. A truly Thai experience.

But the big attraction of the temple has to be the Giant Reclining Buddha, which is a whopping 46 metres long ! You definitely cannot see it in one go although the most interesting part of the buddha itself are his feet, designed with mother of pearl and depicting the 108 lakshahnas or auspicious signs of the true Buddha.

Scattered around the complex there are interesting sculpture groups depicting scenes of the religious life, like the one with hermits featuring different poses of yoga and massage.

    Wat Pho: Wat Pho
One of Bangkok's oldest and largest temples, Wat Pho is famous for its gigantic, gold-plated, reclining Buddha. The temple has an enormous collection of Buddha images and is the centre for the teaching and preservation of traditional Thai medicine. Visitors may like to schedule time for a traditional Thai massage here.

Originally built in the 16th century, Wat Pho is Thailand's largest and oldest temple. It features Thailand's largest reclining buddha (46 metres long and 15 metres high) and also houses the country's largest collection of buddha images.

The temple was almost completely rebuilt by King Rama I in 1781. Today, it is also the national headquarters for the teaching and preservation of traditional Thai medicine.

Visitors should get a massage at Wat Pho's massage school at the eastern end of the compound. It costs about 180baht for an hour-long massage or 100baht for a 30-minute session. Wat Pho-trained masseurs and masseuses are highly regarded for their technique and expertise.

An entrance fee of 20baht is charged. It's open daily from 8am to 5pm. The ticketing booth is closed daily from 12pm to 1pm.

Wat Pho: Wat Pho, yai wang !
Rebuilt in the 1780s by Rama I, Wat Pho is really worth the visit. It has a traditional medicine center (including a massage center, closed when i was there).

The Reclining Buddha is a most see. Check out it's feet. The details are just amazing.

The Main house (Main Bot) has a big shrine with a meditating Buddha. It's also all Gold plated and amazing by all the details in it's tiniest parts.
