Originally built in the 16th century, Wat Pho is Thailand's largest and oldest temple. It features Thailand's largest reclining buddha (46 metres long and 15 metres high) and also houses the country's largest collection of buddha images. The temple was almost completely rebuilt by King Rama I in 1781. Today, it is also the national headquarters for the teaching and preservation of traditional Thai medicine. Visitors should get a massage at Wat Pho's massage school at the eastern end of the compound. It costs about 180baht for an hour-long massage or 100baht for a 30-minute session. Wat Pho-trained masseurs and masseuses are highly regarded for their technique and expertise. An entrance fee of 20baht is charged. It's open daily from 8am to 5pm. The ticketing booth is closed daily from 12pm to 1pm. Leave a Comment Phone: 02-221-991Directions: Coming from the Chao Phraya, alight at Tha Tien Pier.

Rebuilt in the 1780s by Rama I, Wat Pho is really worth the visit. It has a traditional medicine center (including a massage center, closed when i was there). The Reclining Buddha is a most see. Check out it's feet. The details are just amazing. The Main house (Main Bot) has a big shrine with a meditating Buddha. It's also all Gold plated and amazing by all the details in it's tiniest parts. The Golden Buddha shown here is also about 10 meters high. Its head is far bigger that an average man. He could have eaten me in one single bite. This is a clear example of this area's ancient richness. Now things seem to be changed a lot. This place is definitely stunning. Leave a Comment

This is one of the temples you must visit when in Bangkok. It's a 15 minute walk from the Grand Palace or a 30 baht cab ride. This is the home to over 1,000 buddhas and the impressive reclining buddha. Leave a Comment
